Out For The Count
''Out for the Count'' is the third album by Show of Hands. The album follows Phil Beer's departure from The Albion Band in 1990, allowing Show of Hands to become a full-time partnership. Recorded straight to Digital Audio Tape in The Old Court, Devon, in 1991, the duo released the album later on in the year on cassette, becoming the final of their cassette-only releases. The album was released to a positive reception from concert goers, but as with the duo's previous releases, it did not bring the bang attention from any publications. The duo followed the release with their first CD release, ''Show of Hands Live'' (1992). By 1995, ''Out for the Count'' and the duo's first two albums were out of print, so the duo released the compilation album ''Backlog 1987–1991'' (1995) containing material from the three albums, including five songs from ''Out for the Count''. Show of Hands is an English acoustic roots/folk duo formed in 1986 by singer-songwriter Steve Knightley (guitars, mandolin, mandocello, cuatro) and composer and multi-instrumentalist Phil Beer (vocals, guitars, violin, viola, mandolin, mandocello). Joined by singer and double-bassist Miranda Sykes for a tour in 2004, Show of Hands continued to regularly perform as a trio with Sykes, as well as in their original format. In 2019 the line-up was further expanded by the addition of Irish percussionist Cormac Byrne. Known for their songs with rousing choruses that address contemporary social issues, (notably their "singalong attack on the bankers", Arrogance Ignorance and Greed) these often illustrate current concerns through historical narratives and have earned Knightley the label the 'Gravel voiced spokesman of the rural poor'. Show Of Hands (1987 Album)
''Show of Hands'' is the debut album by English folk duo Show of Hands. The duo formed when Phil Beer took a break from folk rock band The Albion Band, requesting to Steve Knightley that they record a cassette together in Knightley's garage. Knightley, who had recently returned to the duo's native Devon after departing London, agreed, and the duo recorded the album together in January 1987 in Catsley Home, described by Knightley as an outbuilding in the remotest part of Dorset. The album contains twelve compositions, mostly songs by Knightley. The duo self-released the album in early 1987 on cassette only. It was recorded and released to coincide with their first tour, and was only sold from the duo's concerts. The duo halted their time together as Beer returned The Albion Band, but returned in 1990 with ''Tall Ships'', an album centered on its title track which is a twenty-two-minute adaption of the much shorter song that opens ''Show of Hands''. The Neville Brothers
The Neville Brothers were an American R&B/soul/funk group, formed in 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana. History The group notion started in 1976, when the four brothers of the Neville family, Art (1937–2019), Charles (1938–2018), Aaron (b. 1941), and Cyril (b. 1948) came together to take part in the recording session of the Wild Tchoupitoulas, a Mardi Gras Indian group led by the Nevilles' uncle, George Landry ("Big Chief Jolly"). Their debut album ''The Neville Brothers'' was released in 1978 on Capitol Records. In 1987, the group released '' Uptown'' on the EMI label, featuring guests including Branford Marsalis, Keith Richards, and Carlos Santana. ''Rhythm Methodist'' (typeset as ''RHYThM METhODIST'' on the 2005 version) is the fourth studio album by Phil Beer (sixth including the Phil Beer Band studio albums). Recorded at Riverside Studio whilst on a break from Show of Hands, the album is a double album, with disc one, ''Songs'', containing cover versions of songs, whilst disc two, ''Instrumentals'', consists almost entirely of Beer's arrangements of traditional, instrumental pieces. An eclectic array of instruments, influences and guest musicians feature on the album. It was released in May 2005 by Hands on Music, before an altered re-release occurred in 2008 which features the music on one disc instead of two and a different typeface on the artwork. The album was critically acclaimed, with praise given to Beer's musicianship, skill and singing voice. Bridport
Bridport is a market town in Dorset, England, inland from the English Channel near the confluence of the River Brit and its tributary the Asker. Its origins are Saxon and it has a long history as a rope-making centre. On the coast and within the town's boundary is West Bay, a small fishing harbour also known as Bridport Harbour.
