Ourselves Alone (Boardwalk Empire)
"Ourselves Alone" is the second episode of the second season of the HBO television series ''Boardwalk Empire'', which originally aired October 2, 2011. The episode was written by Howard Korder and directed by executive producer David Petrarca. Plot Nucky is released from jail, and becomes aware of the defection of several key allies, including his brother Eli and Jimmy, to the Commodore. Margaret, in disguise, takes an active role in helping Nucky's business, retrieving incriminating pieces of evidence from his office while it is being searched by government agents. Jimmy visits New York to discuss a business proposal with Rothstein that would essentially replace Nucky with Jimmy as supplier. Afterwards, Jimmy plays cards with Luciano and Lansky, who suggest they go into heroin distribution. After the game, Jimmy kills a pair of well-connected Mafia hoods who try to rob him. ''Boardwalk Empire'' is an American period crime drama television series created by Terence Winter and broadcast on the premium cable channel HBO. The series is set chiefly in Atlantic City, New Jersey, during the Prohibition era of the 1920s and stars Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson. Winter, a Primetime Emmy Award-winning screenwriter and producer, created the show, inspired by Nelson Johnson's 2002 non-fiction book ''Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City'', about the historical criminal kingpin Enoch L. Howard Korder is an American screenwriter and playwright. He is the author of the 1988 coming-of-age play '' Boy's Life'', which earned him a Pulitzer Prize for Drama nomination. His play ''Search and Destroy'' was adapted into a film in 1995. Among the screenplays he has written are ''The Passion of Ayn Rand'' and ''Lakeview Terrace''. David Petrarca
David Petrarca (born November 10, 1965) is an American director and producer of theatre, television and film. He was director at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago from 1988 until 2005. His work as a director includes HBO's ''Boardwalk Empire'', ''Game of Thrones'', ''Big Love'', ''Hung'', and ''True Blood'' as well as ''Marco Polo'', ''Jessica Jones'' and numerous other projects for Netflix. Other recent projects include ''The Alienist'' and ''Warrior''. He worked as an executive producer on ''Those Who Kill'', ABC series ''Eli Stone'' and ''Drop Dead Diva''. "21" is the first episode of the second season of the HBO television series ''Boardwalk Empire'', which originally aired September 25, 2011. The episode was written by series creator and executive producer Terence Winter and directed by executive producer Tim Van Patten. Plot Nucky Thompson's power is challenged by the alliance of Jimmy Darmody, Eli Thompson, and the Commodore, who manipulate the Ku Klux Klan into attacking Chalky White's bootlegging warehouse. Chalky kills one of the attackers, sparking outrage in the community. Nucky orders Eli to arrest Chalky for his own protection. Jimmy reflects upon his upbringing, and Nucky's part in it. First aired on October 9, 2011, it was written by Itamar Moses and directed by Susanna White. Plot Nucky reaches out to various sources for help in fighting the legal charges against him. To his dismay, many that he formerly did favours for are now turning a blind eye to his predicament. Capone visits Atlantic City to end Torrio's bootlegging arrangements with Nucky. Irishman Owen Sleater offers his services to Nucky. Richard Harrow is on a job for Jimmy, selling alcohol to one of Nucky's clients. Sleater informs the client that Harrow doesn't work for Nucky, and engages in a fight with Harrow's men. After a brief standoff, both men withdraw.
