Ourasi (7 April 1980 – 12 January 2013) was a chestnut French Trotter. He earned $2,913,314 during his career. His harness racing victories included three consecutive Prix d'Amérique at Vincennes, the second by approximately 18 lengths. Ourasi is considered by many to be the horse of the century. He won more than 50 consecutive races. Jean-René Gougeon (who died in July 2008), his trainer and driver, won the "Prix d'Amérique" with Ourasi 3 times. Ourasi won the "Prix d'Amérique" a fourth time with Minou Gougeon, the brother of Jean René Gougeon, who had had a stroke. Background Ourasi was born in Normandy in a small stud belonging to Raoul Ostheimer and Rachel Tessier. Prix d'Amérique is a harness race held at the Hippodrome de Vincennes in Paris, France. The race takes place on the last Sunday of January every year, and has been doing so since 1920, with the exception for the years 1940-1941 when it was cancelled due to World War II. March Of Dimes Trot
The March of Dimes Trot was a Standardbredtrotting race that took place at Garden State Park Racetrack in New Jersey on November 17, 1988. It is considered one of the most legendary races in trotting history. The race was connected with March of Dimes charity foundation. The idea of the race was a duel between American world-record-breaker Mack Lobell, who had just been sold to Sweden, and the famous French trotter Ourasi. Both horses had been racing in Europe but they had never met. The one-mile race also featured eight other horses from Europe and North America. Three of the European participants (Napoletano, Sugarcane Hanover and Friendly Face) were American-bred. The race evoked great interest in Europe. More than 70 reporters had flown to cover the race. A four-hour television coverage was sent to France and the race was also broadcast in Sweden. Surprisingly only a crowd of 8,000 people showed up at the racetrack. Hundreds of them were from Europe. Oslo Grand Prix
Oslo Grand Prix is an annual Group One harness event that takes place at Bjerke Racetrack in Oslo, Norway. The competition was inaugurated in 1966 and is regarded as Norway's biggest trotting event. It is raced over 2,100 meters and is part of the European Grand Circuit. The overall purse for the 2009 event was 2.87 million Norwegian ''kroner'' (NOK), equalling approximately US$427,000 or €308,000.In the conversion from NOK to USD, the rates of 2009-04-29 have been used. The fastest winning time in the history of the race is 1:11.5, run by L'Amiral Mauzun in 2008. Racing conditions Oslo Grand Prix is since 1981 been decided through a race over 2,100 meter. Prix was an American power pop band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1975 by Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven. The group ended up primarily as a studio project. Its recordings were produced by Tiven along with former Big Star member Chris Bell, who also played guitar and sang backup vocals. Prix is also famous of Banjo playing. Alex Chilton also participated in the recordings, along with session drummer Hilly Michaels.
