Our Gang (film)
''Our Gang'' (1922) is an American ''Our Gang'' silent short film that was the third entry in the series to be released. It was directed by Charley Chase, Robert F. McGowan, Tom McNamara, and Fred Newmeyer. The two-reeler was released into theaters on November 5, 1922 by Pathé. Plot Jimmy is trying to get the affections of Mary Jane. Mary Jane, however, is not interested in Jimmy, but rather is interested in rich kid Pat. The gang tries to help Sunshine Sammy get some clothes. They lure rich Pat into a trap in order to steal his clean clothes, but Pat beats them up. The gang then offers Pat a place in the gang, and they cut his hair and trade clothes with him. When Mary Jane sees Pat, she is disgusted. She soon sees Jimmy and Jackie wearing their new outfits. Later, Mary Jane's mother is trying to get some customers in her store while competing with a popular rival store across the street. Charley Chase
Charles Joseph Parrott (October 20, 1893 – June 20, 1940), known professionally as Charley Chase, was an American comedian, actor, screenwriter and film director. He worked for many pioneering comedy studios but is chiefly associated with producer Hal Roach. Chase was the elder brother of comedian/director James Parrott. Life and career Born Charles Joseph Parrott in Baltimore, Maryland, Charley Chase began performing in vaudeville as a teenager and started his career in films by working at the Christie Film Company in 1912. He then moved to Keystone Studios, where he began appearing in bit parts in the Mack Sennett films, including those of Charlie Chaplin. By 1915 he was playing juvenile leads in the Keystones, and directing some of the films as Charles Parrott. Ernest Morrison
Ernest Fredric Morrison (December 20, 1912 – July 24, 1989) was an American child actor, comedian, vaudevillian and dancer who also performed under the stage name Sunshine Sammy Morrison and was the only black member of the ''East Side Kids'', and also was an original performer in the '' Our Gang'' short film series franchise (the 1920s silent film series). Early life Born in 1912 in New Orleans, Morrison was the brother of Florence Morrison and stage and screen actress Dorothy Morrison, he fell into show business because a child actor being used for a film could not be persuaded to do anything but howl. One of the crew members asked Morrison's father Ernest Morrison Sr. to bring in his newborn son, and since the newest member of the Morrison clan gave the film crew what they needed, they decided to christen him "Sunshine," since he did not cry.
