Our Community
Our Community is an Australian social entrepreneurship body set up to build capacity in Australia's 600,000 community groups and grantmaking bodies. The Our Community Group comprises a number of different enterprises. In 2009, Our Community launched a cloud-based grants management administration software tool that is used by local, state and federal government, philanthropic and corporate grantmakers to receive applications and manage their funding programs. The company was founded in 2000 by Denis Moriarty, its current managing director, who received a Centenary Medal in recognition for establishing Our Community. It is chaired by prominent social investor and Reserve Bank of Australia member Carol Schwartz AO. In the past, it had Rhonda Galbally AO as its CEO. Social Entrepreneurship
Social entrepreneurship is an approach by individuals, groups, start-up companies or entrepreneurs, in which they develop, fund and implement solutions to social, cultural, or environmental issues. This concept may be applied to a wide range of organizations, which vary in size, aims, and beliefs. For-profit entrepreneurs typically measure performance using business metrics like profit, revenues and increases in stock prices. Social entrepreneurs, however, are either non-profits, or they blend for-profit goals with generating a positive "return to society". Therefore, they use different metrics. Social entrepreneurship typically attempts to further broad social, cultural and environmental goals often associated with the voluntary sector in areas such as poverty alleviation, health care and community development. Capacity Building
Capacity building (or capacity development, capacity strengthening) is the improvement in an individual's or organization's facility (or capability) "to produce, perform or deploy". The terms ''capacity building'' and ''capacity development'' have often been used interchangeably, although a publication by Development Assistance Committee, OECD-DAC stated in 2006 that ''capacity development'' was the preferable term. Since the 1950s, international organizations, governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and communities use the concept of capacity building as part of "Socioeconomics, social and economic development" in national and subnational plans. The United Nations Development Programme defines itself by "capacity development" in the sense of "'how United Nations Development Programme, UNDP works" to fulfill its mission. Reserve Bank Of Australia
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) is Australia's central bank and banknote issuing authority. It has had this role since 14 January 1960, when the ''Reserve Bank Act 1959'' removed the central banking functions from the Commonwealth Bank. The bank's main policy role is to control inflation levels within a target range of 2-3%, by controlling the unemployment rate according to the NAIRU, via controlling the official cash rate. The NAIRU was implemented in most Western nations after 1975, and has been maintained at a target of 5-6% unemployment. The average unemployment rate in Australia between the end of the second world war and the implementation of the NAIRU was consistently between 1-2%. Carol Schwartz (businesswoman)
Carol Judith Schwartz (; born 1955) is an Australian business executive, community leader and philanthropist. Early life and education Born Carol Judith Besen in Melbourne in 1955, Schwartz is the daughter of Eva and Marc Besen, of the fashion retailer Sussan. She was educated at a Jewish Steiner school in Elwood and then completed her secondary education at Mount Scopus Memorial College. She graduated from Monash University with an arts/law degree. Career Schwartz began work in the property division of the family business, developing shopping centres in Melbourne and Sydney. Rhonda Galbally
Rhonda Galbally AC has been a CEO, Chair and board member for over thirty years, across business and the not for profit sector, the public sector and philanthropy. As a woman with a lifelong disability, Galbally first began focusing on disability rights and policy in the early 1980s while working as the senior policy officer for the Victorian Council for Social Services. Galbally next became the CEO of the Sidney Myer Fund and the Myer Foundation, in that role she served as Chair of the Australian Association of Philanthropy. Oxfam Australia is an Australian, independent, not-for-profit, secular, community-based aid and development organization, and is an affiliate of the Oxfam International confederation. Partners In Aid
Partners in Aid is an aid organisation supporting projects in India, Bangladesh, and the Philippines. History Partners In Aid was established in 1962 with the intention of providing support to rural communities in India and Bangladesh. Initially, the organisation had two paid staff. However, it now operates on a volunteer basis. Early projects involved shipments of livestock, but during the 1980s, Partners In Aid policies expanded to include community health and economic development. Current activities are facilitated through partnerships with locally registered, in-country NGOs.
