Mohamed Boumerdassi ( ar, ), (March 18, 1936, in Ouled Boumerdès – December 7, 2010, in Thénia) was considered a Grand Master of Bedouin music, Malhun and Algerian music. Life He was born on March 18, 1936, under the name ''Mohamed ben Mustapha al-Boumerdassi'' in the Ouled Boumerdès village within the actual Boumerdès Province. He received his basic education at the ''Zawiyet Sidi Boumerdassi'' in his native village of ''Ouled Boumerdès'', where he learned the Quran. He was a keen admirer of ''Sheikh Ben Ahmed al-Boumerdassi'', then known for his qasida of madih nabawi and poetry praising Muhammad. He was also a follower of ''Sheikh al-Miliani'', who appointed him ''Commander of Bedouin Song'' (machiakha) after discovering his voice which he greatly admired. He was notably renowned for his song ''Hammam Alouane'' and a tribute was paid to him in 2004 by the Algerian Minister of Culture for the "National festival of Bedouin song and popular poetry". Cheikh Mohamed El-Boumerdassi ( ar, الشيخ محمد البومرداسي) was one of the principal leaders of the popular Mokrani Revolt uprising of 1871 against the French occupation of Algeria. Zawiyet Sidi Boumerdassi ( ar, زاوية سيدي البومرداسي) or Zawiyet Ouled Boumerdès is a zawiya located within Boumerdès Province in Algeria. Construction The zawiya of Ouled Boumerdès was built in 1714 in the southern heights of the current town of Boumerdès within the Kabylia region. Boumerdès River
Boumerdès ( ar, بومرداس; Kabyle: Bumerdas; formerly ''Rocher Noir'') is the capital city of Boumerdès Province, Algeria. It is located on the Mediterranean Sea. It had a population of 28,500 in 1998 and 15,000 in 1987. Boumerdès is a seaside city located in the north of Algeria about 50 km east of Algiers and 50 km west of Tizi Ouzou. The Oued Meraldene or Oued Merabtene, also called Oued Bourdine, is a river of Algeria located in Kabylia within the framework of the Province of Boumerdès. Presentation The ''Meraldène'' stream is one of the main tributaries of the Boumerdès River which is a river that finds its mouth in the Mediterranean Sea.
