Oui Oui
Oui Oui were a French pop group formed in 1983. Guitarist-singer Étienne Charry and drummer Michel Gondry met at secondary school in Sèvres in 1978. The repertoire of songs Oui Oui built up was a reaction to what was termed cold wave music in France and the more politicised rock groups of the era. Numerous musicians passed through the group's ranks in the early years. With the addition of keyboardist Gilles Chapat and bassist Nicolas Dufournet, a more settled line-up was established. In 1989 Oui Oui released their first album ''Chacun Tout Le Monde'' on the Just'in label. Following the departure of Gilles Chapat, the second Oui Oui album ''Formidable'' (1991, released by FNAC Music) was recorded by the trio of Charry, Gondry and Dufournet. Keyboardist Matthieu Ballet later took Chapat's place. Michel Gondry
Michel Gondry (; born 8 May 1963) is a French filmmaker noted for his inventive visual style and distinctive manipulation of mise en scène. Along with Charlie Kaufman, he won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay as one of the writers of the 2004 film ''Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind'', a film he also directed. His other films include the surrealistic science fantasy comedy ''The Science of Sleep'' (2006), the comedy '' Be Kind Rewind'' (2008), the superhero action comedy ''The Green Hornet'' (2011), the drama '' The We and the I'' (2012), and the romantic science fantasy tragedy ''Mood Indigo'' (2013). Sèvres
Sèvres (, ) is a commune in the southwestern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located from the centre of Paris, in the Hauts-de-Seine department, Île-de-France region. The commune, which had a population of 23,251 as of 2018, is known for its famous porcelain production at the ''Manufacture nationale de Sèvres'', which was also where the Treaty of Sèvres (1920) was signed. Coldwave (France)
A cold wave (known in some regions as a cold snap, cold spell or Arctic Snap) is a weather phenomenon that is distinguished by a cooling of the air. Specifically, as used by the U.S. National Weather Service, a cold wave is a rapid fall in temperature within a 24-hour period requiring substantially increased protection to agriculture, industry, commerce, and social activities. The precise criteria for a cold wave are the rate at which the temperature falls, and the minimum to which it falls. This minimum temperature is dependent on the geographical region and time of year. Chacun Tout Le Monde
"Chacun Tout Le Monde" ("Each One Everyone") is the first album released by French pop group Oui Oui on Eurobond Records in 1989. It was released on 12" vinyl under the YABA Music and Just'In Distribution labels, and is currently out of print. Personnel include Étienne Charry (guitar/vocals,) Michel Gondry (drummer,) Nicolas Dufournet (bassist) and Gilles Chapat (keyboards.) Tracks one and two, "Les Cailloux" and "Ma Maison," respectively, were both made into music videos by drummer and filmmaker Michel Gondry, though the version of "Ma Maison" used for the video differs markedly from the LP version. The cover art features marionette caricatures of the four band members, and is the same visual style used in the music video for the first track, "Les Cailloux." The marionettes and art were created by Frédérique Petit and Fabrice Moireau, and was photographed by Jean-Louise Leibovitch. The concept was by Oui Oui-Le Village. ''Directors Label'' is a series of DVDs devoted to notable music video directors. First released in 2003 by Palm Pictures, the series was created by Spike Jonze, Chris Cunningham, and Michel Gondry, the subjects of the first three volumes. Four new volumes were released in 2005, this time featuring Mark Romanek, Jonathan Glazer, Anton Corbijn and Stéphane Sednaoui. A second volume of Gondry's work was released exclusively on his website. Though another series has not yet been confirmed, other directors rumoured to be in future releases are Mike Mills, Shynola, Samuel Bayer, Jonas Åkerlund, Tarsem, David LaChapelle, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, Jean-Baptiste Mondino and Roman Coppola, as well as a separate hip-hop and R&B series featuring Paul Hunter, Director X, and Chris Robinson.
