Oubagaraswami Bernadotte
Ubagarasamy Bernadeth or Oubagaraswami Bernadotte or Ubagaraswamy Bernadette (12 February 1899 – 5 February 1949) was the bishop of Roman Catholic Diocese of Coimbatore from 9 Apr 1940 till his death. He was the first indigenous person from the Archdiocese of Pondicherry and Cuddalore to receive episcopal ordination. He was born in Oulgaret parish, Rettiarpalayam, Pondicherry. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Pondicherry on 23 May 1925. He worked as a professor at Petit Seminaire where he inaugurated the Eucharistic Crusade. His example was followed by other parishes such as Attipakkam, Irudayampet and Viriyur. He was appointed the Bishop of Coimbatore on 9 April 1940. Elie-Jean-Joseph Morel
Elie-Jean-Joseph Morel (27 December 1862 – 15 June 1948) was a member of Paris Foreign Missions Society and was the archbishop of Archdiocese of Pondicherry. On 21 September 1909 he succeeded Archbishop Joseph-Adolphe Gandy. He was the bishop until 16 August 1929. He resigned for health reasons. He was succeeded by Auguste-Siméon Colas. Early life He was born 27 December 1862 in Bellefontaine, diocese of Saint-Claude, Jura. He entered Paris Foreign Missions Society on 5 March 1885. He was ordained as a priest on 24 September 1887. He left immediately for the Pondicherry Mission where he was appointed as a professor of science at the Colonial College. Auguste-Siméon Colas (29 December 1876 – 24 October 1968) was a member of Paris Foreign Missions Society and the last missionary archbishop of Archdiocese of Pondicherry. On 29 September 1930 he succeeded Archbishop Elie-Jean-Joseph Morel when the later resigned due to health reasons. He was the bishop until 28 October 1955. He was succeeded by Ambrose Rayappan. Early life He was born on 29 December 1876 at the parish of Saint-Sulpice, Paris, France. He did his early schooling at Lycée Henri-IV for two years. Then he entered the joint minor Seminary of Notre Dame des Champs.
