Otto Sander
Otto Sander (; 30 June 1941 – 12 September 2013) was a German film, theater, and voice actor. Life Education and early career Sander grew up in Kassel, where he graduated in 1961 from the Friedrichgymnasium. After leaving school he spent his military service in 1961/62 with the Bundesmarine and left as reserve fenrik. Sander then studied theatre science, history of art and philosophy. In 1965 he made his acting debut at the Düsseldorfer chamber plays. After his first film work in the same year he abandoned his studies in 1967, and went to Munich to become a full-time actor. Theatre His career is closely connected with the Schaubühne theatre in Berlin under the direction of Peter Stein. From 1980 onwards Sander appeared on several of Berlin's theatre stages, among others at the Schillertheater in 1981, at the Freie Volksbühne in 1985 and in 1989 at the Komödie am Kurfürstendamm. 58th Berlin International Film Festival
The 58th annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from February 7 to February 17, 2008. The festival opened with Martin Scorsese's documentary film '' Shine a Light''. ''Be Kind Rewind'' by Michel Gondry served as the closing film. Greek-French filmmaker Costa Gavras, was selected to serve as the Jury President at the festival. The Golden Bear was awarded to Brazilian film ''Tropa de Elite'' directed by José Padilha. The retrospective dedicated to Spanish film-maker Luis Buñuel was shown at the festival. Faraway, So Close!
''Faraway, So Close!'' (german: In weiter Ferne, so nah!) is a 1993 German fantasy film directed by Wim Wenders. The screenplay is by Wenders, Richard Reitinger and Ulrich Zieger. It is a sequel to Wenders' 1987 film ''Wings of Desire''. Actors Otto Sander, Bruno Ganz and Peter Falk reprise their roles as angels who have become human. The film also stars Nastassja Kinski, Willem Dafoe and Heinz Rühmann, in his last film role. The story follows the angel Cassiel, who unlike his friend Damiel, chose not to become human in the original despite being told of the joys of life. Cassiel only becomes human in the reunified Berlin, but quickly becomes involved in a criminal enterprise that threatens his newfound life and his friends. Wenders opted to pursue the project, desiring to make a film set in Berlin after the fall of the Wall. ''The Einstein of Sex'' (also known as: ''The Einstein of Sex - Life and Work of Dr. M. Hirschfeld'', German title: ''Der Einstein des Sex'') is a 1999 German film directed by Rosa von Praunheim. The film was shown at the Berlin International Film Festival and at the São Paulo International Film Festival in 2000, among others. Plot Rosa von Praunheim portrays a historical personality. Magnus Hirschfeld made a name for himself as a co-founder of sexology and a pioneer of the gay movement. In his Institut für Sexualwissenschaft in Berlin he fights for the impunity of homosexuality. In the 1930s he even gave lectures in the USA, but the Nazis condemned his educational work. His own homosexuality keeps getting him into trouble, too. Rosa Von Praunheim
Holger Bernhard Bruno Mischwitzky (born Holger Radtke; 25 November 1942), known professionally as Rosa von Praunheim, is a German film director, author, painter and one of the most famous gay rights activists in the German-speaking world. In over 50 years, von Praunheim has made more than 150 films (short and feature-length films). His works influenced the development of LGBTQ+ rights movements worldwide. He began his career associated to the New German Cinema as a senior member of the Berlin school of underground filmmaking. Comedian Harmonists
The Comedian Harmonists were an internationally famous, all-male German close harmony ensemble that performed between 1928 and 1934 as one of the most successful musical groups in Europe before World War II. The group consisted of Harry Frommermann ( tenor buffo), Asparuh "Ari" Leschnikoff (first tenor), Erich Collin (second tenor), Roman Cycowski ( baritone), Robert Biberti ( bass), and Erwin Bootz (pianist).
