Ottewell, Edmonton
Ottewell is a large residential neighbourhood in east Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. "The area is named for the Ottewell family, who were among the first settlers south of the river in the 1880s". The neighbourhood is bounded on the west by 75 Street, on the east by 50 Street, on the south by 90 Avenue, and on the north by 98 Avenue and Terrace Road. The community is represented by the Ottewell Community League, established in 1961, which maintains a community hall and outdoor rink located at 59 Street and 93A Avenue. Ben Ottewell
Benjamin Joseph Ottewell (born 23 June 1976) is an English singer-songwriter. He is one of the three lead singers of the English indie rock band Gomez. He was the recipient of the Mercury Music Award Prize in 1998, and is well known for his "deep, raspy voice" and "gravelly baritone". In 2011, Ottewell embarked upon a solo-project, with the debut album ''Shapes & Shadows''. Career Ottewell came into contact with Ian Ball (vocals, guitar) while the two were studying law at Sheffield University. Ball was impressed by Ben's big voice, and along with Tom Gray (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Paul Blackburn (bass), and Olly Peacock (drums, synths, computers), they formed the band Gomez. Ottewell's deep, soulful voice has gained him some acclaim and has drawn some comparisons to Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and artist Tom Waits, and his lyrical style, and acoustical arrangements, especially in his solo work, have drawn comparisons to folk singer Nick Drake. Sid Ottewell
Sidney Ottewell (23 October 1919 – 31 January 2012) was an English professional footballer who scored 54 goals from 191 appearances in the Football League, playing for Chesterfield, Birmingham City, Luton Town, Nottingham Forest, Mansfield Town and Scunthorpe United. He played as an inside forward. Playing career Ottewell was born in Holbrook, Derbyshire, and captained the Derbyshire Schools football team. He began his senior career with Holbrook Colliery Welfare before joining Chesterfield in 1936. He made his debut in the Second Division as a 17-year-old, on 3 April 1937 in a 4–0 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers. During the Second World War, Ottewell served as a Physical Training Instructor in the Royal Air Force, and made guest appearances for clubs including Birmingham, Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Bradford City, Chester, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur.
