Otterøya
Otterøya is an island in Namsos Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The island is the largest island in the northern part of Trøndelag county. Otterøya sits just to the northwest of the town of Namsos on the north side of the Namsenfjorden. It is connected to the mainland by the Lokkaren Bridge. The island was once governed by Otterøy Municipality and Fosnes Municipality, and became a part of Namsos Municipality in 1964. Otterøy Church is located on the island. Otterøy Municipality
Otterøy is a former municipality in the old Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1913 until its dissolution in 1964. The area is now part of Namsos Municipality in Trøndelag county. The former municipality included most of the island of Otterøya (the part south of Tømmervikfjellet mountain), the island of Hoddøya, the southwestern part of the island of Elvalandet, and some of the mainland southwest of Otterøya and Hoddøya. The area contains good farmland and also good salmon fishing. The main church for the area is Otterøy Church. Prior to its dissolution in 1963, the municipality was the 302nd largest by area out of the 689 municipalities in Norway. Idar Lind
Idar Lind (born 23 September 1954) is a Norwegian novelist, crime fiction writer, songwriter, and playwright. Biography Lind was born on the island of Otterøya (now part of Namsos Municipality) in Nord-Trøndelag county, Norway. He made his literary debut in 1983 with ''Stengte dører''. He was awarded the Riverton Prize in 1989 for the crime novel ''13 takters blues''. His crime novel ''Hotell Tordenskjold'' (1985) introduced the characters "Kristian António Steen", a hotel porter of Spanish descent, and police officer "Breheim", as detectives. The same detectives also solved crime problems in the sequels ''Ormens gift'' (1986) and '' 13 takters blues'' (1989). Further crime novels are ''Som to dråper blod'' (1993), ''Usynlige spor'' (1994), and ''Hysj'' (1996). Lind published the song collection ''Bakfot bok'' in 1980. Namsos (town)
Namsos is a List of towns and cities in Norway, town and the administrative center of Namsos Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located on the north side of the mouth of the river Namsen, where it flows into Namsenfjorden. The village of Spillum lies across the river on the south side. The Norwegian County Road 17 runs through the town and just east of the town is Namsos Airport, Høknesøra. The town was the terminus of the Namsos Line from 1933 until its closure in 2002. Namsenfjorden
Namsenfjorden is a fjord in Trøndelag county, Norway. The long fjord flows along the border between Namsos Municipality and Flatanger Municipality. It runs southeast from the Folda firth, between the mainland in the south and the island of Otterøya in the north, past the island of Hoddøya, to the Namsen river estuary in the town of Namsos. The banks of the fjord are mostly wooded and not very high. Near the town of Namsos, the Løgnin fjord arm branches to the south all the way to the village of Sjøåsen in Namsos Municipality. Fosnes is a former municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 2020 when it was merged into Namsos Municipality. Otterøy Church
Otterøy Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Namsos Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Skomsvoll on the island of Otterøya. It is the church for the Otterøy parish which is part of the Namdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in an octagonal shape with a style reminiscent of the old stave churches. The building was constructed in 1858 using plans drawn up by the architect Christian Heinrich Grosch. The church seats about 350 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1520, but the church was likely built in the early 1200s.
