Ottery, Cape Town
Ottery is a suburb in Cape Town, South Africa. It is on the edge of the Southern Suburbs. The Youngsfield Military Base, Royal Cape Golf Club and Cape Town's 'official' China Town are located in the suburb. Every year the Youngsfield Military Base in Ottery hosts the Cape Argus Junior Cycle Tour on 12 March. Transport There is an Ottery train station present and is on the Cape Flats line, which connects Heathfield to Cape Town via Athlone. The Ottery station was built in 1904 (finished on 1 February). The line was built for private use and was acquired as government property on 1 July 1908. The Golden Arrow busses pass the Ottery centre as well, part of the Wynberg to Khayelitsha route. Minibus taxi's pass through Ottery on Ottery Road, en route to Wynberg from Lotus River and Mitchells Plain respectively. More information can be found on the City's website. Ottery St Mary
Ottery St Mary, known as "Ottery", is a town and civil parish in the East Devon district of Devon, England, on the River Otter, about east of Exeter on the B3174. At the 2001 census, the parish, which includes the villages of Metcombe, Fairmile, Alfington, Tipton St John, Wiggaton, and (until 2017) West Hill, had a population of 7,692. The population of the urban area alone at the 2011 census was 4,898. There are two electoral wards in Ottery (Rural and Town). The total population of both wards, including the adjacent civil parish of Aylesbeare, at the 2011 census was 9,022. The town as it now stands has several independent shops, mainly in Mill Street, Silver Street and Yonder Street. An area known as 'The Square', is the heart of Ottery St Mary. Ottery St Mary railway station is a closed railway station that served the town of Ottery St Mary, in Devon, England. It was opened in 1874 on the Sidmouth Railway, but was closed in 1967 due to the Beeching Axe The Beeching cuts (also Beeching Axe) was a plan to increase the efficiency of the nationalised railway system in Great Britain. The King's School, Ottery St Mary
The King's School is a secondary school and sixth form located in Ottery St Mary, Devon, England. It was established as a choir school by the bishop John Grandisson in 1335, but was replaced by a Grammar schools in the United Kingdom, grammar school by Henry VIII of England, Henry VIII in 1545. It became a comprehensive school in 1982, and an Academy (English school), academy in 2011. The school's pupils are mainly drawn from its five feeder primaries in the surrounding area: Ottery St Mary Primary School, Ottery St Mary primary school, West Hill Primary School, Payhembury Church of England Primary School, Feniton Church of England Primary School and Tipton St John Church of England Primary School. River Ottery
The River Ottery ( kw, Otri) is a small river in northeast Cornwall, United Kingdom. The river is about long from its source southeast of Otterham to its confluence with the River Tamar at Nether Bridge, northeast of Launceston. The headwaters of the River Ottery are within the civil parish of Otterham but formerly came under the parish of Forrabury and Minster. In 1311, the rector of that parish wrote: "..the river Ottery takes its rise in this parish and flows to Canworthy Water and so by Yeolmbridge to the river Tamar." Hydrology and course With its tributaries, the River Ottery forms a major sub-catchment of the Tamar system, draining of north Cornwall. Upottery
Upottery (originally Up Ottery) is a rural village, civil parish and former manor in East Devon, England. Location Upottery takes up both sides of the upper vale of the Otter which flows to the English Channel south of Ottery St Mary and is a clustered village. Its northern limit forms the border with Somerset. Clockwise from which are the Devon parishes of Yarcombe, Stockland, Cotleigh, Monkton, Luppitt and Clayhidon. History Parts of the parish church of St Mary the Virgin date from the 12th century.
