Ottawa Sun
The ''Ottawa Sun'' is a daily newspaper in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is published by Sun Media. It began publication in 1983 as the ''Ottawa Sunday Herald'', until it was acquired by (then) Toronto Sun Publishing Corporation in 1988. In April 2015, Sun Media papers were acquired by Postmedia. A Sunday edition of the newly named ''Ottawa Sun'' began publication on September 4, 1988 and a daily publication started on November 7, 1988. As with its sister papers, it has a " Sunshine Girl" feature, although in the past it also contained a "Sunshine Boy" feature. Past editors include Peter Worthington and Mark Bonokoski. The current editor-in-chief since 2016 is former managing editor of the ''Montreal Gazette'', Michelle Richardson. Its editorials are often considered conservative-leaning. Peter Worthington
Peter John Vickers Worthington (February 16, 1927 – May 12, 2013) was a Canadian journalist. A foreign correspondent with the ''Toronto Telegram'' newspaper from 1956, Worthington was an eyewitness to the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald in 1963, and can be seen in photographs of the event. He remained with the ''Telegram'' until it folded in 1971. Worthington was the founding editor of the ''Toronto Sun'' newspaper, which was created by former ''Telegram'' employees upon that newspaper's demise. In 1996 Worthington was inducted into the Canadian News Hall of Fame. Early life Born in Winnipeg, Worthington was son of Major General F. F. Worthington, Peter Worthington was a veteran of both the Second World War and the Korean War. The ''Ottawa Citizen'' is an English-language daily newspaper owned by Postmedia Network in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. History Established as ''The Bytown Packet'' in 1845 by William Harris (journalist), William Harris, it was renamed the ''Citizen'' in 1851. The newspaper's original motto, which has recently been returned to the editorial page, was ''Fair play and Day-Light''. The paper has been through a number of owners. In 1846, Harris sold the paper to John Bell (journalist), John Bell and Henry J. Friel. Robert Bell (1821-73), Robert Bell bought the paper in 1849. Mark Bonokoski, is a Canadian conservative newspaper columnist and commentator. In November 2017, he was inducted into the Canadian News Hall of Fame. Sunshine Girl
Sunshine Girl refers to pinup girls featured in most of the daily newspapers of the Sun chain in Canada. History The feature started with the ''Toronto Sun'', which was launched in 1971, and was adapted from British tabloids with similar featured women. While the British tabloids started publishing photos of topless models in 1970, the Sunshine Girls have never been photographed in this manner. The photos usually feature a clothed or swim-suited female model, actress, athlete. Although primarily published in color since the 1990s, prior to this the feature alternated between color and black and white and was exclusively black and white in the 1970s and early 1980s. Typically featured on page 3 of the Sun in through the 1990s, the Sunshine Girl moved to the back page of the sports section in the early 2000s.
