Ottar Befring
Ottar Befring (19 November 1939 – 9 October 2023) was a Norwegian lawyer and politician. He served as the County Governor of Møre og Romsdal county from 2002 until 2009. Befring began his career in the armed forces of Norway in 1958. In 1966, he graduated from the Norwegian Military Academy and became an officer and served until 1978. After his retirement from the military, he moved back to the family farm in Stardalen in Jølster. As a farmer, he became involved in the local politics, eventually winning a seat on the local municipal council and the Sogn og Fjordane county council as well. From 1992 to 1997, he worked at the Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture. In 1998, he became the agriculture director for Møre og Romsdal county. Jølster
Jølster is a former municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway. It was located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative centre was the village of Skei. Other villages in the municipality included Helgheim, Ålhus, Vassenden, and Langhaugane. Jølster was located at the centre of the old Sogn og Fjordane county and was known for its rich cultural traditions in home crafts, folk music, song, dancing, and creative arts. Agriculture was the largest industry in the municipality. The principal attraction in Jølster was the scenery, with easy access to the glaciers Grovabreen, Jostedalsbreen, and Myklebustbreen. Jølster was home to part of the largest glacier of continental Europe, the Jostedalsbreen as well as a clear green lake named Jølstravatnet. The trout caught in Jølstravatn were renowned throughout Norway and beyond. Alv Jakob Fostervoll
Alv Jakob Fostervoll (20 January 1932 – 15 June 2015) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. He served as Norwegian Minister of Defence and Governor of Møre og Romsdal. Biography Fostervoll was born at Kristiansund in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. He attended the teachers college in Volda and worked as a school teacher prior to entering politics. He held various political position in Kristiansund municipality council from 1959 to 1969, serving as deputy mayor in the period 1967–1969. From 1967 to 1969 he was also a member of Møre og Romsdal county council. He was elected to the Parliament of Norway from Møre og Romsdal in 1969, and was re-elected on one occasion. He was appointed Minister of Defence in 1971–1972 during the first cabinet and in 1973–1976 during the second cabinet of Prime Minister, Trygve Bratteli. Lodve Solholm
Lodve Solholm (born 14 March 1949 in Vestnes) was the county governor of Møre og Romsdal (from 2009 until retirement in 2018). He used to be a politician representing the Progress Party. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Møre og Romsdal in 1989, serving until 1993; he was out of parliament from 1993 to 1997, but was re-elected in 1997, 2001, and 2005. Sogn Og Fjordane
Sogn og Fjordane (; English: "Sogn and Fjordane") was, up to 1 January 2020, a county in western Norway, when it was merged to become part of Vestland county. Bordering previous counties Møre og Romsdal, Oppland, Buskerud, and Hordaland, the county administration was in the village of Hermansverk in Leikanger municipality.
