Thomas Hickman-Windsor, 1st Earl Of Plymouth
Thomas Hickman-Windsor, 1st Earl of Plymouth, PC (c. 1627 – 3 November 1687), was the son of Dixie Hickman and his wife Elizabeth Windsor, sister and heiress of Thomas Windsor, 6th Baron Windsor. He assumed the additional surname of Windsor and succeeded to the Windsor family's estate around Hewell Grange near Redditch in 1645. The same year he distinguished himself in the Battle of Naseby. Hickman-Windsor impressed King Charles I by relieving his garrison at High Ercall. Upon the Restoration, the title of Baron Windsor, which had last been held by his maternal uncle Thomas, was called out of abeyance in his favour, on 16 June 1660. From 1661 to 1663, he served as Governor of Jamaica. However, he actually spent only three months in Jamaica: according to Samuel Pepys his abrupt return to England caused a good deal of comment. Other Windsor, 2nd Earl of Plymouth (27 August 1679 – 26 December 1727) was a British peer, styled Lord Windsor from his father's death in 1684 to 1687. He was a Hanoverian Tory, supportive of the Hanoverian Succession. The son of Other Windsor, Lord Windsor and Elizabeth Turvey, he succeeded his grandfather as Earl of Plymouth in 1687. His unusual first name is a variant of Otho. Other Windsor, 3rd Earl of Plymouth (30 June 1707 – 23 November 1732) was an English peer and landowner, a member of the House of Lords from 1728 until his death. His first name goes back in the Windsor family to Other, or Othoere, the father of Walter Fitz Other, who was constable of Windsor Castle in the time of William the Conqueror. The son of Other Windsor, 2nd Earl of Plymouth, and Elizabeth Whitley, he was educated at Eton College,''Burke's Peerage'', volume 3 (2003), p. 3153 where he was a contemporary of Henry Fielding, and succeeded his father as Earl of Plymouth and Baron Windsor on 26 December 1727, but had to wait until he was 21 to be admitted to the House of Lords. On 7 May 1730 Plymouth married Elizabeth Lewis, a daughter of Thomas Lewis. Other Hickman Windsor, 5th Earl of Plymouth FRS (30 May 1751 - 12 June 1799), styled Lord Windsor until 1771, was an English nobleman. Early life Styled Lord Windsor from birth, he was the eldest son of Other Windsor, 4th Earl of Plymouth and the Honourable Catherine, daughter of Thomas Archer, 1st Baron Archer. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society on 22 April 1773. He was Colonel of the Glamorganshire Militia, 6 August 1779. Other Windsor, 5th Earl of Plymouth was featured in Johan Zoffany's painting Tribuna of the Uffizi painted between 1772 and 1778. The 5th Earl is one of a number of visiting English noblemen to the Tribuna room in the Uffizi in Florence, Italy. Other Archer Windsor, 6th Earl of Plymouth (2 July 1789 – 20 July 1833) was an English nobleman, the eldest and only surviving son of the 5th Earl of Plymouth by his wife and cousin, Hon. Sarah Archer, daughter and eventual co-heiress of the 2nd Baron Archer. He was the sixth Earl of Plymouth of the 1682 creation. Family He was born the only son, and had two sisters Lady Mary Windsor, who married the Marquess of Downshire and Lady Harriet Windsor, who married the Hon. Robert Clive, a son of the Earl of Powis and grandson of Clive of India.
