Proto-Germanic
Proto-Germanic (abbreviated PGmc; also called Common Germanic) is the reconstructed proto-language of the Germanic branch of the Indo-European languages. Proto-Germanic eventually developed from pre-Proto-Germanic into three Germanic branches during the fifth century BC to fifth century AD: West Germanic, East Germanic and North Germanic, which however remained in contact over a considerable time, especially the Ingvaeonic languages (including English), which arose from West Germanic dialects and remained in continued contact with North Germanic. A defining feature of Proto-Germanic is the completion of the process described by Grimm's law, a set of sound changes that occurred between its status as a dialect of Proto-Indo-European and its gradual divergence into a separate language. As it is probable that the development of this sound shift spanned a considerable time (several centuries), Proto-Germanic cannot adequately be reconstructed as a simple node in a tree model but ... Autchar
Autchar (also Otachar or Otgar) was a Frankish nobleman. He served Pippin III as a diplomat in 753 and followed Carloman I after the division of the kingdom in 768. In 772, refusing to accept Carloman's brother Charlemagne as king, he went into exile in the Lombard kingdom with Carloman's widow and sons. He was captured when Charlemagne invaded the kingdom in 773. His role in the fall of the Lombard kingdom was the subject of legendary embellishment a century later and in the ''chansons de geste'' he evolved into the figure of Ogier the Dane. Family Autchar belonged to a Frankish family long established around Mainz in the Rhineland, and which by 750 was active around the Tegernsee in Bavaria. It is not known to which branch of the family Autchar belonged, but it was probably the Bavarian one. The surviving sources do not allow a full reconstruction of the family's relationships, and it is not even possible to identify how many distinct persons were named Autchar, a common name. In ... Saint-Pons-de-Thomières Cathedral
Saint-Pons-de-Thomières Cathedral (''Cathédrale Saint-Pons de Saint-Pons-de-Thomières'') is a former Roman Catholic church located in Saint-Pons-de-Thomières, France. It is a national monument. It was formerly the seat of the Bishopric of Saint-Pons, founded like a number of bishoprics in the region in the aftermath of the suppression of the Albigensians. By a Papal bull dated 18 February 1318, Pope John XXII created the see by elevating the abbey of Saint-Pons, which had been here since its foundation in 936 by Raymond, Count of Toulouse. The bishopric was abolished by the Concordat of 1801 and merged into the Diocese of Montpellier. The Romanesque abbey church became the present cathedral. It takes its dedication, like the town and the abbey, from Saint Pontius of Cimiez. It is particularly known for the carvings on and around the portals. Otger Cataló (or '' 'Catalon' '') is a legendary character who with the Nine Barons of Fame would have conquered Catalonia from the Saracens sometime in the 8th century AD. According to some old theories, the name of Catalonia would have derived from its surname. In any case, the oldest written references to this character that have survived are from the fifteenth century, much later than any contemporaneous source. The legend was recovered mainly from XIX with the appearance of Renessaince and by the works of the authors of the Catalan ''Renaixença'': Víctor Balaguer, Antoni Ferrer i Codina and Jacinto Verdaguer.{{cite encyclopedia, url=http://www.enciclopedia.cat/ec-gec-0047965.xml, title=Otger Cataló, work=L'Enciclopèdia.cat, location=Barcelona, publisher=Grup Enciclopèdia Catalana The legend is based on events that occurred in three different generations.
