Otep is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 2000. They have released two EPs, eight studio albums, and one live album. They are currently signed with Napalm Records. The band has sold over 500,000 albums worldwide. History Early years, ''Jihad'' and ''Sevas Tra'' (2000–2003) Otep began as a band in Los Angeles, California, in late 2000. They were invited to play Ozzfest before they had signed to a label after Sharon Osbourne witnessed their live performance. They have since played Ozzfest several times. Otep signed with Capitol Records after four shows and without a demo, purely on the power of their live performance. Jihad (EP)
''Jihad'' (also known as ''Otep'' on European versions) is the debut EP and release by American nu metal band Otep. It was released on June 19, 2001 by Capitol Records. It is the only Otep release to feature guitarists Traver Marsh and Dave "Spooky" Aguilera, who were fired from the band shortly after the EP's release. Background Otep was formed in November 2000. After an appearance at the Roxy Theatre (their fourth show) in February 2001, the band was selected by Sharon Osbourne to appear on the bill for Ozzfest 2001, despite the fact they had no record deal or demo. This increased the band's attention, and Nik Frost, an A&R representative, signed the band to Capitol Records in March 2001. ''Smash the Control Machine'' is the fourth studio album from Otep. It was released on August 18, 2009. The album shows a reunion of the band's '' Sevas Tra'' lineup. It is also the final album to feature long-time bassist Jason "eVil J" McGuire. Background In April 2009, Otep signed with Victory Records. The album is also the first to feature the ''Sevas Tra'' lineup of the band in seven years. Otep Shamaya is an American singer and rapper, best known as the lead vocalist and founder of the eponymous metal band Otep. ''Sevas Tra'' is the debut studio album by the nu metal band Otep, released in 2002. The album name, when read backwards, reads as "art saves". It debuted at number 145 on the ''Billboard'' 200. ''The Ascension'' (stylized as ''the_Ascension'') is the third studio album by Otep. The album was recorded at The original release date was set for March 20, 2007 through Capitol Records, however, the album was delayed indefinitely due to the merger with Virgin Records. The album debuted at number 81 on the ''Billboard'' 200 with 10,200 copies sold. Recording The album was partly recorded in New Orleans, Louisiana, where producer Dave Fortman was living. ''House of Secrets'' is the second studio album by the American heavy metal band Otep, produced by Greg Wells (Deftones, Rufus Wainwright, Mika), and released in 2004. The album entered the ''Billboard'' 200 at number 93. The video for the song "Warhead" made the top ten videos of 2004 on MTV's ''Headbangers Ball''. Rob Patterson (born November 9, 1970) is an American guitarist and composer. Background Patterson was born in Natick, Massachusetts. His first major band was the metal, female-fronted Otep. He wrote and played on the albums, ''Sevas Tra'', '' House of Secrets'' and ''Smash the Control Machine''. He was a touring guitarist for Korn from July 2005–March 2008, after the departure of Brian "Head" Welch. In April 2008, Patterson became engaged to Carmen Electra, but they never wed and split in 2012. He is also one of the characters in the book ''Sex Tips from Rock Stars'' by Paul Miles that was published by Omnibus Press in July 2010. Koichi Fukuda (born July 1, 1975) is a Japanese musician, best known as the lead guitarist, programmer, and keyboardist for the metal band Static-X; he has been a member of the band three times, initially from 1994 to 2000, again from 2005 to 2010 and since 2018. Nu Metal
