Ostrava main railway station, (, abbreviated ), is a railway station in city part Ostrava-Přívoz and main train terminus of Ostrava, third biggest city in the Czech Republic. Tracks Station is an important transport junction. All types of trains operated by Czech Railways or private transport companies RegioJet and Leo Express stops here. Station is located on a crossing of four railway lines: * 321 Opava východ – Český Těšín * 323 Ostrava – Valašské Meziříčí * 270 Bohumín - Olomouc (main) - Česká Třebová * (freight only) History First train reached the new-built station on 1 May 1847. Přívoz
Přívoz (german: PrziwosThe postoffice name was ''MÄHRISCH OSTRAU, BAHNHOF'' before 1880., briefly till 1920 and 1939-1945 also ''Oderfurt'') is a part of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. It lies in the Moravian part of the city, in the administrative district of Moravská Ostrava a Přívoz. It lies in the historical region of Moravia and was first mentioned in a written document in 1377 as ''Prsiewoz''.Hosák et al. 1980, 330-331. Heavy industrialization that occurred in Ostrava in the second half of the 19th century also affected Přívoz. Railroad line was built there, coke-processing plant was constructed in 1909 together with a power plant. Industrialization had impact also on demographics, influx of migrant workers occurred. Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway
The Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway (german: Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn; cs, Severní dráha císaře Ferdinanda; pl, Kolej Północna Cesarza Ferdynanda) was the name of a former railway company during the time of the Austrian Empire. Its main line was intended to connect Vienna with the salt mines in Bochnia near Kraków. The title is still used today in referring to a number of railway lines formerly operated by that company. History The Nordbahn, financed by Salomon Mayer von Rothschild (1774–1855), was Austria's first steam railway company. The first stretch, between Floridsdorf and Deutsch Wagram, was opened in 1837. An extension to Vienna was built in 1838, and the track through Břeclav to Brno in 1839. The first train from Vienna arrived in Břeclav railway station on 6 June 1839. Rail transport (also known as train transport) is a means of transport that transfers passengers and goods on wheeled vehicles running on rails, which are incorporated in tracks. In contrast to road transport, where the vehicles run on a prepared flat surface, rail vehicles (rolling stock) are directionally guided by the tracks on which they run.
