Ostrander Lake
Ostrander Lake is located in Yosemite National Park, approximately south of Yosemite Valley and east of the Badger Pass Ski Area, at an elevation of . The lake is a popular destination for cross-country skiers during the winter. It is the primary source of Bridalveil Creek, which feeds Bridalveil Falls. Hiking Trail The hike to Ostrander Lake is a long and strenuous out and back hike starting from the trailhead located just after Bridalveil Creek on the Glacier Point road. This hike requires a Backcountry Permit, if staying overnight,available at the Wilderness Center in Yosemite Village. The hike begins with a fairly level path through an extensive burned over and regrowth area, with both shaded and sunny areas. The second half of the hike climbs, steep at times, over in elevation in about 3 miles. Portions of the 4th and 5th miles are not shady and can make for warm hiking on summer afternoons. Blue Lake (Michigan)
Blue Lake is a lake with a marshy shoreline that is located in southern Alger County, Michigan in the middle of the Hiawatha National Forest. It is located about a mile north of the intersection of Federal Forest Highway 13 and Delta County Road 440 and just north of the county line with Delta County and just west of the county line with Schoolcraft County. The only lodging on the lake and for several miles are the cabins of the Hiawatha Resort situated near the Midway General Store. Some of the wildlife living near the lake include beaver, otter, mink, sandhill cranes, muskrat, geese, herons, and ducks. The national forest offers many game animals including black bear, white-tailed deer, woodcock, and grouse. Hiawatha National Forest
Hiawatha National Forest is a National Forest in the Upper Peninsula of the state of Michigan in the United States. Commercial logging is conducted in some areas. The United States Forest Service administers this National Forest; it is physically divided into two subunits, commonly called the Eastside and Westside . Etymology According to the forest service, it was "named after the Mohawk chief, Hiawatha, who brought about the confederation known as the Five Nations of the Iroquois.
