Ostioneros De Guaymas (basketball)
The Ostioneros de Guaymas (English: ''Guaymas Oyster Farmers'') are a Mexican professional basketball team based in Guaymas, Sonora. The Ostioneros are members of the Circuito de Baloncesto de la Costa del Pacífico (CIBACOPA) and play their games at the Gimnasio Municipal de Guaymas. They are named after the Ostioneros de Guaymas, a defunct baseball team which was a charter member of the Mexican Pacific League. History The Ostioneros de Guaymas were established in 2008. They joined the Circuito de Baloncesto de la Costa del Pacífico (CIBACOPA), becoming the third team from Guaymas to play in the league after the Marineros and the Bucaneros. The Ostioneros de Guaymas played their debut season in 2009 and finished third in the North Zone with a 20–20 record. The team was eliminated in the quarterfinals by the Rayos de Hermosillo. Circuito De Baloncesto De La Costa Del Pacífico
The Basketball Circuit of the Pacific Coast ( or ''CIBACOPA'') is a basketball league based in Northwestern Mexico. As of 2018, it involves 10 clubs, primarily from northwest Mexico. The matches take place from March to June. History A league with the same name existed in the 1980s, and the second incarnation was founded in 2001. The charter members were Caballeros de Culiacán, Delfines de Mazatlán, Frayles de Guasave, Lobos Marinos de La Paz, Paisas de Los Cabos, and Pioneros de Los Mochis. Caballeros de Culiacán won the inaugural league title by defeating Delfines de Mazatlán four games to none in the finals. The 2019 season saw a total attendance of more than 220,000. Venados de Mazatlán ( en, Mazatlán Deer) are a professional baseball team in the Mexican Pacific League based in Mazatlan, Sinaloa. In 2016, the team won the Mexican Pacific League Championship and went on to win their second Caribbean Series, which was played in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. 2004–2005 season In the 2004–2005 season, the Venados of Mazatlán won the Mexican Pacific League title for the seventh time. John Welch (basketball)
John Welch (born February 17, 1963) is an American professional basketball coach and former player who most recently served as assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played professionally in New Zealand where in 1988, he earned Most Outstanding Guard and All-Star Five honors playing for Waitemata. The Halcones de Ciudad Obregón (English: ''Ciudad Obregón Falcons'') are a Mexican professional basketball team based in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora. It started on 5 April 2018 and ended on 19 July 2019. The league title was won by the Tijuana Zonkeys, who defeated the Garra Cañera de Navolato in the championship series, 4–2. ''Zeta'' is a Mexican magazine published every Friday in Tijuana by Choix Editores. ''Zeta'' is distributed primarily in Baja California, in the cities of Tijuana, Tecate, Rosarito, Ensenada, and Mexicali. It was founded in 1980 by Jesús Blancornelas, known as "the spiritual godfather of modern Mexican journalism", along with Héctor Félix Miranda and Francisco Ortiz Franco. The magazine regularly runs exposés on corruption in local and federal governments as well as on organized crime and drug trafficking, resulting in numerous threats and attacks against its staff. Félix was murdered in 1988 by bodyguards of politician Jorge Hank Rhon, while Ortiz was assassinated in 2004, apparently for his coverage of the Tijuana Cartel.
