Osterøy (island)
Osterøy is an island situated northeast of the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. With a total area of , it is the largest Norwegian island not located directly adjacent to the ocean, and the second largest such island in Northern Europe. Osterøy is covered by two municipalities: the majority () by Osterøy municipality, and the rest () by Vaksdal municipality. The vast majority of the island's population lives in Osterøy municipality (7,305 inhabitants as of 2008). The island is surrounded by fjords with mainland Norway on all sides of those fjords. The Osterfjorden- Romarheimsfjorden flows along the north side, the Sørfjorden flows along the southern and western sides, and the Veafjorden flows along the eastern side. Vestland
Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. The administrative centre of the county is the city of Bergen, where the executive and political leadership is based, but the County Governor is based in Hermansverk. The county is one of two counties in Norway that have Nynorsk as their official written language form (the others are neutral as to which form people use). Vestland was created in 2020 when the former counties of Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane (with the exception of Hornindal municipality, which became part of Volda municipality in Møre og Romsdal county) were merged. Osterfjorden
Osterfjorden is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. The fjord is one of three fjords surrounding the island of Osterøy (island), Osterøy. The fjord runs along the municipal border of Alver (municipality), Alver and Osterøy municipalities. The fjord begins at the Romarheimsfjorden and flows to the west for before ending near the village of Knarvik at the confluence of four fjords: Osterfjorden, Radfjorden (to the north), Sørfjorden (Osterøy), Sørfjorden (to the south), and Salhusfjorden (to the west). The Osterfjorden is generally about wide and the deepest point in the fjord reaches a depth of below sea level. The following villages lie along the Osterfjorden: Knarvik, Hamre, Osterøy, Hamre, Leknes, Hordaland, Leknes, Eikanger, Hosanger (village), Hosanger, Fotlandsvåg, Ostereidet, and Tysso. Havrå
Havrå or Havre (sometimes Havretunet or Havråtunet) is a cluster farm along the southern shore of the island of Osterøy in Osterøy municipality, Vestland county, Norway. Havrå is one of the last and best preserved of the common farm clusters on the western coast of Norway. Havrå was the first cultural environment to be protected under section 20 of the Norwegian Cultural Heritage Act. It was not connected to the national road network until late in the 1960s. Havrå is situated on very steep terrain on the south side of the island of Osterøy, along the Sørfjorden. The farm area is shaped in a typical fashion for the steep terrain along the Western Norwegian fjords. Kallestadsundet Bridge
The Kallestadsundet Bridge is a bridge over the Veafjorden in Vaksdal municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The bridge links the mainland part of Vaksdal municipality to the part that lies on the island of Osterøy. The bridge lies about northwest of the village of Stamneshella. The bridge was opened in 1985 and it was the first bridge to connect Osterøy island to the mainland. In 1997, the Osterøy Bridge was opened for traffic, as the second bridge to Osterøy island. Osterøy Bridge
The Osterøy Bridge ( no, Osterøybrua) is a suspension bridge in Vestland county, Norway. The bridge connects the Kvisti farm area on the island of Osterøy in Osterøy Municipality with the Herland farm area on the mainland in Bergen Municipality east of the city of Bergen. The bridge is the third largest suspension bridge in Norway. It is part of Norwegian County Road 566 (''Fylkesvei 566''). The Osterøy Bridge is a long suspension bridge that has a main span of . Veafjorden
Veafjorden (historically, the Vedåfjorden) is a fjord in Vestland county, Norway. The long fjord flows between the mainland and the island of Osterøy in Vaksdal municipality. There is one bridge across the fjord, the Kallestadsundet Bridge near Stamneshella. The fjord is named after the old ''Veo'' farm, located on the shore of Osterøy island, about north of Stanghelle. The farm sits at the foot of steep mountains and is only accessible by boat or by hiking by foot for to the nearest road. A scene from the movie "The Golden Compass" was filmed along the Veafjorden. Sørfjorden is a long fjord in Vestland county, Norway. The fjord flows around the west and south sides of the island of Osterøy (island), Osterøy, going through the municipalities of Osterøy, Bergen, and Vaksdal. The fjord begins at the village of Vaksdal (village), Vaksdal where the Veafjorden flows into the Sørfjorden, it then heads west and then north before emptying into the Osterfjorden.
