Osnat Trabelsi
Osnat Trabelsi (in Hebrew: אסנת טרבלסי; born December 21, 1965) is an Israeli film producer. She is known for producing documentary films on political topics, especially those involving Palestine, the Mizrahi experience in Israel, women's issues, colonialism, racism, and more; and for melding her business with activism, promoting filmmaking in the geographical and social periphery of Israel, and creating access to Palestinian cinema. Biography Family background Trabelsi was born and grew up in Ashdod, in the south of Israel. Her mother, Rina, immigrated to Israel from Iraq, via Tehran, and lived in a shanty-town allotted to Mizrahi immigrants in Hadera. She later moved to Ramat Gan. Her father, Mordechai, immigrated from Tunis as part of a youth program, and studied in an agricultural school. His films include ''Cup Final'' (1991), ''The Syrian Bride'' (2004), ''Lemon Tree'' (2008) and '' Dancing Arabs'' (also known as ''A Borrowed Identity'') (2014). ''Arna's Children'' is a 2004 Dutch-Israeli documentary film directed by Juliano Mer Khamis and Danniel Danniel. The film's story revolves around a children's theater group in Jenin in the Palestinian territories established by Arna Mer-Khamis, the director's mother, an Israeli Jewish political and human rights activist. The film portrays the lives of Arna Mer-Khamis and the children members of the theater including Ala el-Sabagr, Zakaria Zubeidi, Daud Zubeidi, Majdi ShadiHaifa Staiti Nidal Swetti, Yussef Swetti, Mahmoud Kaneri, Khairia Fakhri and Ashraf Abu-Alheji. Arna Mer-Khamis (20 March 1929 – 15 February 1995) was an Israeli Jewish political and human rights activist. In 1993, she was awarded the Right Livelihood Award for "passionate commitment to the defence and education of the children of Palestine." Biography Arna Mer was born in 1929, in Rosh Pinna, at the time Mandate Palestine. Mer's father was Gideon Mer, a Lithuanian-born Jewish scientist who pioneered the study of malaria during the British Mandate. Mer fought with the Palmach and Israel Defense Forces during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
