Masayoshi Oshikawa
Masayoshi Oshikawa (押川方義; 1850–1928) was a Japanese evangelist, political activist and founder and first president of Tohoku Gakuin University. Early life and education Masayoshi Oshikawa was born in 1850 in Iyo Province (current Ehime prefecture), the third son of the Hashimoto family, a family of the samurai class, and later adopted at age eleven by the Oshikawa family. In the Japanese feudal adoption tradition the son usually became the son-in-law if the father had a daughter; this was the case in this adoption. At age 18 he married Tsune, the daughter of Masayuke Oshikawa. The father was bitterly opposed to anything foreign; due to this family opposition, he saw his wife only twice in the nine years after his subsequent conversion. Norikichi Oshikawa
was a Japanese politician. He was born in Kagoshima Prefecture. He was governor of Yamagata Prefecture (1897-1898), Ōita Prefecture (1898-1899), Nagano Prefecture (1899-1902), Iwate Prefecture (1904-1907) and Kumamoto Prefecture (1907-1908). He was a member of the Government-General of Taiwan. Kiyoshi Oshikawa
Kiyoshi Oshikawa (Oshikawa Kiyoshi, 押川清, 1 January 1881 – 18 March 1944) was a Japanese baseball player, executive and the founder of the first Japanese professional baseball team. Early life and education Oshikawa was born in Matsuyama City (although other sources say Sendai), and grew up in Sendai, Japan, where his father was a Christian minister. He attended Waseda University in Tokyo. After college he was in the Japanese military for a year. Baseball career Oshikawa was a star baseball player at Waseba University and a student of Professor Abe Isō, who has been called the "Father of Japanese baseball." After graduation he played for the Tomon Club, composed of the Waseda Baseball Club's alumni. Oshikawa participated in a 1905 baseball tour of the United States under Abe's leadership, the first tour of the U.S. by a Japanese team. Shunrō Oshikawa
was a Japanese author, journalist and editor, best known as a pioneer of science fiction. Education and early career While studying law at Tōkyō Senmon Gakkō (present day Waseda University) at the turn of the century, Oshikawa published ''Kaitō Bōken Kidan: Kaitei Gunkan'' (海島冒険奇譚 海底軍艦 lit. "Undersea Warship: A Fantastic Tale of Island Adventure"), the story of an armoured, ram-armed submarine in a future history of war between Japan and Russia. The novel reflects the imperialist ambitions of Japan at the time, and foreshadowed the Russo-Japanese War that followed in 1904, driven by much the same motivation. Oshikawa's father was Masayoshi Oshikawa, evangelist, political activist and founder and first president of Tohoku Gakuin University and his brother was Kiyoshi Oshikawa, founder of the first professional baseball team in Japan.
