Osgoode, Ontario
Osgoode (also known as Osgoode Village) is a population centre in Osgoode Ward in the rural south end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located just 2 km east of the Rideau River. Until amalgamation in 2001, it was located in Osgoode Township. According to the Canada 2016 Census Osgoode had a population of 2,578. History It was originally part of Osgoode Township but it became part of Ottawa in 2001. Originally called Osgoode Station, its name was shortened to Osgoode in 1962. The community took its name from William Osgoode, the first Chief Justice of Upper Canada. Present day Notable landmarks of the community include the Stuart Holmes Arena for ice hockey, the Osgoode Community Centre and its surrounding recreation facilities, the local mall, and numerous shops within the village. Kars/Rideau Valley Air Park
Rideau Valley Air Park is a registered aerodrome located south of Kars, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on the shore of the Rideau River. The aerodrome has a single grass runway, and serves mainly ultralight and glider traffic. Users Rideau Valley Soaring is a gliding club that operates from the Kars/Rideau Valley Air park on a regular basis during the soaring season (April-October). The club members fly both private and club aircraft. The gliding club owns a Grob 103, Schleicher ASK 21 and Schweizer SGS 2-33 training gliders, plus Schweizer 1-34 and Rolladen-Schneider LS4 single-seaters. ''Greenland'' is a 2020 American disaster thriller film directed by Ric Roman Waugh and written by Chris Sparling. William Osgoode
William Osgoode (March 1754 – January 17, 1824) was the first Chief Justice of Upper Canada (now known as Ontario, Canada). Life and career He was born William Osgood in London, England, in 1754 to William Osgood (died 1767). His family was Methodist and John Wesley recounted on Sunday, 13 December 1767 that "I was desired to preach a funeral sermon for William Osgood. He came to London nearly thirty years ago, and from nothing increased more and more, till he was worth several thousands of pounds. He was a good man, and died in peace. 2016 Canadian Census
The 2016 Canadian census was an enumeration of Canadian residents, which counted a population of 35,151,728, a change from its 2011 population of 33,476,688. The census, conducted by Statistics Canada, was Canada's seventh quinquennial census. The official census day was May 10, 2016. Census web access codes began arriving in the mail on May 2, 2016. The 2016 census marked the reinstatement of the mandatory long-form census, which had been dropped in favour of the voluntary National Household Survey for the 2011 census. Rideau River
The Rideau River (french: Rivière Rideau) is a river in Eastern Ontario, Canada. The river flows north from Upper Rideau Lake and empties into the Ottawa River at the Rideau Falls in Ottawa, Ontario. Its length is . As explained in a writing by Samuel de Champlain in 1613, the river was given the name "Rideau" (curtain) because of the appearance of the Rideau Falls. The Anishinàbemowin name for the river is "Pasapkedjinawong", meaning "the river that passes between the rocks."
