Oscar Munoz (executive)
Oscar Munoz (born January 5, 1959) is an American businessman and executive chairman of United Airlines. He previously served as chief executive officer (CEO) of United Airlines from 2015 to 2020. Prior to his role at United Airlines, Munoz served on the board of parent company United Continental Holdings (UCH) and held multiple executive positions at CSX Corporation and AT&T. In December 2019, Munoz announced that he would transition to the role of executive chairman of the board in May 2020. President Scott Kirby took over the CEO role from Munoz in May 2020 at United's annual meeting. Early life Munoz was born on January 5, 1959, the eldest of ten children in a Mexican-American family from Southern California. He was the first in his family to graduate from college. United Express Flight 3411
The 2017 removal of passengers from United Express Flight 3411 occurred at Chicago O'Hare International Airport on April 9 of that year. Widely characterized by government officials and United Airlines itself as an example of mishandled customer service, the incident arose when four paying customers were selected to be involuntarily deplaned to make room for four deadheading employees. According to United spokesman Jonathan Guerin, the flight was not overbooked. United decided to remove four passengers in order to reposition a crew to cover a flight in Louisville the next day. Included among the deplaned passengers was Dr. David Dao Duy Anh, a Vietnamese-American who was injured by law enforcement personnel when he was physically dragged from the Louisville International Airport-bound flight. ''PRWeek'' is a trade magazine for the public relations industry. The original UK edition was the brainchild of the late Geoffrey Lace who at the time worked for Haymarket. After failing to interest Haymarket in his idea he left to launch it on his own circa 1981. Peter Gummer (now Lord Chadlington) had founded Shandwick a few years earlier in 1974 aged 31.
