Oscar E. Carlstrom
Oscar E. Carlstrom (July 16, 1878 – March 6, 1948) was an American lawyer. Biography Carlstrom was born on a farm near Aledo, Illinois and graduated from New Boston High School.McCann, B. H. (editor). Delegates' Manual of the Fifth Constitutional Convention of the State of Illinois 1920', Illinois State Journal Company, Springfield, Illinois, State Printers, 1920, page 215. He attended a law course at Northern Illinois College of Law in Dixon, Illinois. As a member of the United States Volunteers, he joined the 39th Volunteer Infantry from August 26, 1899 to May 6th, 1901 and was stationed in the Philippines for 16 months. He also served in Illinois Army National Guard with the 6th Illinois Infantry and the 123rd Field Artillery Regiment from November 26, 1916 to June 7, 1919 during World War I and was stationed in France for one year. Aledo, Illinois
Aledo (u--doh) is a city in Mercer County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,640 at the 2010 census, up from 3,613 in 2000. It is the county seat of Mercer County. History Aledo was established in the 1850s when the railroad was extended to that point. It was briefly named DeSoto, after Hernando de Soto, until the discovery of an identically named village in Jackson County, Illinois. Development in the Downtown Aledo Historic District began in the 1850s, and the oldest surviving buildings date from the following decade. A post office has been in operation at Aledo since September 24, 1856. In 1857, the county seat was moved to Aledo from Millersburg after a countywide referendum. Mercer County is a county in Illinois. According to the 2010 census, it had a population of 16,434. Its county seat is Aledo. Mercer County is included in the Davenport- Moline- Rock Island, IA-IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Mercer County is named for Hugh Mercer (1726–1777), a physician and general during the American Revolution who died from wounds suffered at the Battle of Princeton. In May 1812, Congress passed an act which set aside lands in Arkansas, Michigan, and Illinois as payment to volunteer soldiers in the War of 1812. Mercer County was part of this "Military Tract." The Illinois Attorney General is the highest legal officer of the state of Illinois in the United States. Originally an appointed office, it is now an office filled by statewide election. Based in Chicago and Springfield, Illinois, the attorney general is responsible for providing legal counsel for the various state agencies including the Governor of Illinois and Illinois General Assembly, and conducting all legal affairs pertaining to the state. The office of the Illinois Attorney General was established on December 3, 1818, based on guidelines adopted by a state constitutional convention. Elections were held in Illinois on Tuesday, November 3, 1936. Primaries were held April 14, 1936. The elections overall saw a strong performance by the Democratic Party.
