Osborne is a suburb in the Australian state of South Australia located on the LeFevre Peninsula in the west of Adelaide about north-west of the Adelaide city centre. Description Osborne is bounded to the south by the suburb of Taperoo, to the west by Gulf St Vincent and to the north west by the suburbs of North Haven and Outer Harbor and to the east by the suburb of Torrens Island. History Osborne originally started as a private sub-division in Section 2015 in the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Port Adelaide. It was named after Captain R.W. Osborne (c.1834-1920). A portion was subsequently added to North Haven. The name was "formally submitted by the City of Port Adelaide at a council meeting held on 10 May 1945" and was formally adopted in 1951 by the Nomenclature Committee. HMAS Hobart (DDGH 39)
HMAS ''Hobart'' (DDG 39), named after the city of Hobart, Tasmania, is the lead ship of the Hobart-class destroyer, ''Hobart''-class air warfare destroyers used by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The ship, based on the Álvaro de Bazán-class frigate, ''Álvaro de Bazán''-class frigate designed by Navantia, was built at ASC Pty Ltd, ASC's shipyard in Osborne, South Australia from modules fabricated by ASC, BAE Systems Australia in Victoria, and Forgacs Group in New South Wales. The lands administrative divisions of South Australia are the cadastral (i.e., comprehensively surveyed and mapped) units of counties and hundreds in South Australia. They are located only in the south-eastern part of the state, and do not cover the whole state. 49 counties have been proclaimed across the southern and southeastern areas of the state historically considered to be arable and thus in need of a cadastre. Within that area, a total of 540 hundreds have been proclaimed, although five were annulled in 1870, and, in some cases, the names reused elsewhere. Midlunga railway station is a railway station located on the Outer Harbor line, in Adelaide, Australia. Situated in the north-western Adelaide suburb of Osborne, South Australia, it is from Adelaide station. History Midlunga railway station was opened in 1921. It was named after a nearby land divide. The name is a portmanteau of midla and nga, two Kaurna words that mean spear thrower and the place of respectively. The station originally had lower step-down platforms. Outer Harbor Railway Line
The Outer Harbor railway line is a suburban branch line in Adelaide, South Australia. It runs from Adelaide station through the north western suburbs to Port Adelaide and Outer Harbor. Osborne Power Station
The Osborne Power Station is located in Osborne, a northwestern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. Current Today's Osborne Power Station is natural gas powered with one gas turbine and one steam turbine that together generate 180 MW of electricity. In addition to the electricity generated, Osborne produces 410 tonnes/hour of steam. Until Penrice closed in 2014, steam was used by Penrice Soda Products, a soda ash producer, making the power station Australia's largest cogeneration facility. Osborne was commissioned in 1998 with one 120 MW combined cycle gas turbine and one 60 MW steam turbine, using gas from the Cooper Basin. It is owned 50% by ATCO and 50% by Origin Energy.
