The Democratic People's Republic of Korea Football Association (PRKFA, ) is the governing body of football in North Korea. The association was founded in 1945 and it joined FIFA in June 1958 and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in September 1974. Organization PRKFA is "notoriously hard to contact". The association used to have a single fax number, and nowadays hosts a single email address. FIFA executive Jérôme Champagne remembers: "You sent a fax. Sometimes you got a reply", while football journalist James Piotr Montague's emails for "the best part of a decade" were always left unanswered. Hwaebul Sports Club
Hwaebul Sports Club is an association football club from Pochon, North Korea, founded in 2013. It is the sports club of the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League and is based at the 5,000 capacity Hwaebul Stadium. They are presently playing in the DPR Korea Premier Football League. History The team was given its name by Kim Jong-un when it was founded, in the hopes that the club would be a guiding light for football in North Korea, as "Hwaebul" means "torch" in Korean. Despite its newness, the club has already achieved considerable success, finishing third in their inaugural season, winning the Highest Class Football League in the second season, along with securing several wins in the Paektusan Prize, the Poch'ŏnbo Torch Prize, and other competitions. Association Football
Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. Hoeryeong
Hoeryŏng () is a city in North Hamgyong Province, North Korea. It is located opposite Jilin Province, China, with the Tumen River in between. Sanhe (三合鎮), in Longjing City, is the closest Chinese town across the river. Hoeryŏng is the birthplace of Kim Il Sung's first wife and Kim Jong Il's mother, Kim Jong Suk. Kyŏnggongopsong Sports Club (''Kyŏnggong'ŏpsŏng'', lit. Sobaeksu Sports Club ( ko, 소백수체육단, ''Sobaeksu Ch'eyuktang'') is a North Korean multi-sports club based in Pyongyang, best known for its men's and women's football teams playing at Yanggakdo Stadium. February 8 Sports Club () is a North Korean multi-sports club. History Being established in 1959, the club belongs to the Ministry of People's Armed Forces. The club name originated from the Korean People's Army's (KPA) date of establishment, which was formed in 8 February 1948. (Until 1977, the original KPA's official date of establishment was 8 February 1948. However, in 1978, it was changed to 25 April 1932, due to Kim Il Sung's anti-Japanese guerilla army – the , considered the predecessor of the KPA – being formed on 25 April 1932. This change was reverted in 2018). Confusion with April 25 Sports Club February 8 Sports Club and April 25 Sports Club have many similarities. In conclusion, the North Korean Ministry of People's Armed Forces operates both sports clubs separately.
