Orígenes Lessa
Orígenes Lessa (July 12, 1903 in Lençóis Paulista – July 13, 1986 in Rio de Janeiro), journalist, short story writer, novelist, and an essayist. He was elected, on July 9, 1981 for the Chair number 10 of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, succeeding Osvaldo Orico, and was received on November 20, 1981, by the Academy Member Francisco de Assis Barbosa. His life Lessa was a son of Vicente Themudo Lessa, historian, journalist and a Protestant pastor from the State of Pernambuco, and of Henriqueta Pinheiro Themudo Lessa. In 1906, he was taken by his family to São Luís in the State of Maranhão, where he stayed until the age 9, following his father's journey as a missionary. From the experience of his childhood resulted the novel ''Rua do Sol'' (Street of the Sun). In 1912, he returned to São Paulo. Lençóis Paulista
Lençóis Paulista is a Municipalities of Brazil, municipality in the Central West region of the state of São Paulo (state), São Paulo. The population is 68,990 (2020 est.) in an area of 810 km². The elevation is 550 m. It is home of the largest library in the interior of the State of São Paulo, an institution of higher learning, and a SENAI technical school. It was originally named "Lençóis", but a 1940s' decree by then Brazilian president Getúlio Vargas determined that there could be no homonymous cities in Brazil, and since there was already an older city called Lençóis (in Bahia state), the city was renamed Lençóis Paulista. The original proposal was to rename it Ubirama, but the population wanted to keep the original name. The Academia Brasileira de Letras (ABL; English: ''Brazilian Academy of Letters'') is a Brazilian literature, literary non-profit society established at the end of the 19th century. The first president, Machado de Assis, declared its foundation on Tuesday, 15 December 1896, with the by-laws being passed on Thursday, 28 January 1897. On Tuesday, 20 July of the same year, the academy started its operation. According to its statutes, it is the pre-eminent Portuguese council for matters pertaining to the Portuguese language.
