Orwa Nyrabia
Orwa Nyrabia ( ar, عروة النيربية; born 16 December 1977) is an independent documentary film festival artistic director, producer, filmmaker, trainer, human rights defender and co-founder of DOX BOX International Documentary Film Festival in Syria. Nyrabia is a resident of Berlin, Germany, since the end of 2013 In January 2018 Nyrabia became the director of International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). Education and career Nyrabia graduated with a degree of acting from the Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts in Damascus, Syria. From 1997 to 2002, Nyrabia wrote regularly for Lebanese daily '' As-Safir''. In 2004, he starred in Yousry Nasrallah's "''The Gate of Sun''". Homs ( , , , ; ar, حِمْص / ALA-LC: ; Levantine Arabic: / ''Ḥomṣ'' ), known in pre-Islamic Syria as Emesa ( ; grc, Ἔμεσα, Émesa), is a city in western Syria and the capital of the Homs Governorate. Elias Khoury
Elias Khoury ( ar, إلياس خوري; born 12 July 1948) is a Lebanese novelist, and prominent public intellectual. Accordingly, he has published myriad novels related to literary criticism, which have been translated into several foreign languages, including English. Khoury has also written three plays and two screenplays. Khoury has been an editor of famous Lebanese newspapers. Between 1993 and 2009, he served as an editor of ''Al-Mulhaq'', the weekly cultural supplement of the Lebanese daily newspaper '' Al-Nahar.'' Wiam Simav Bedirxan
Wiam Simav Bedirxan is a Syrian Kurdish documentary filmmaker from Homs, who co-directed the 2014 film '' Silvered Water, Syria Self-Portrait'' with exiled filmmaker Usama Muhammad. Bedirxan documented the Siege of Homs and sent its footage via the internet to Muhammad in Paris in order to make ''Silvered Water, Syria Self-Portrait'', which had its world premiere at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Wiam Simav Bedirxan was born in Saudi Arabia, where her mother was a teacher for five years. The family returned to Syria in the 1980s and proceeded to settle in Homs in 1997. She attended University in Aleppo after which she became an elementary school teacher in Homs and began to film what happens in Homs. The 2014 Sundance Film Festival took place from January 16, 2014 until January 26, 2014 in Park City, Utah, United States, with screenings in Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Sundance Resort in Utah. ''The Return to Homs'' is a 2013 Syrian-German documentary film written and directed by Talal Derki. It is produced by Orwa Nyrabia and Hans Robert Eisenhauer while Diana El Jeiroudi served as the associate producer. The film premiered in-competition at the 2013 International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam on November 20, 2013, as the opening film of the festival.
