Office Of Rail And Road
The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) is a non-ministerial government department responsible for the economic and safety regulation of Britain's railways, and the economic monitoring of National Highways. ORR regulates Network Rail by setting its activities and funding requirements for each Control Period, ensuring train operators have fair access to the railway network, and enforcing compliance with its network licence. ORR also regulates High Speed 1, the Channel Tunnel, and also acts as the appeal body, controls the network statement and monitors the competitive situation of rail services in Northern Ireland. Urr Water
Urr Water or River Urr ('' arc. River Orr'') is a river in which flows through the counties of Dumfriesshire and Kirkcudbrightshire in southwest Scotland. Course Entirely within Dumfries and Galloway, the Urr Water originates at Loch Urr and flows for thirty-five miles southwards past Corsock, Glenlair, Auchendolly, Bridge of Urr, Haugh of Urr, and close to Dalbeattie, via Palnackie to the Solway Firth at Rough Firth. The village of Kippford stands near the head of the firth where the Urr Water reaches the sea; the only other coastal settlement of any size is Rockcliffe. The principal settlement on the river is Dalbeattie. The river is noted for salmon fishing. Etymology The name 'Urr' is from Cumbric ''or'' 'a border, boundary, limit'. Yorketown Airport
Yorketown Airport (IATA:ORR, ICAO:YYOR) is a regional, uncontrolled airport located in Yorketown on the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. The airfield is run and operated by the Yorke Peninsula Council. The airfield is used as an emergency landing strip for the RFDS service, but it is also open for public use. Facilities The airfield has one paved runway with the heading of 17/35. The airfield has basic landing lights, aircraft parking, windsock, toilets and a water station. Orr School
The Orr School is a historic school building at 831 Laurel Street in Texarkana, Arkansas. It is a single story wood-frame structure, with a hip roof that has exposed rafters. It is clad in white shiplap siding. The interior has a long, narrow hallway dividing classrooms on either side. The school was built c. 1880, and is the only surviving building in Texarkana associated with the life of the noted African-American composer Scott Joplin (1868-1917), the "father of American Ragtime". The building was originally two stories in height, but was reduced to one in 1920, when then hip roof and some of its Craftsman-style window treatment was added. It was purchased from the city by the City Federation of Women's Clubs in 1958. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Orr Academy High School
Rezin Orr Academy High School is a public four-year high school bordered between the neighborhoods of West Garfield and Humboldt Park located on the West Side of Chicago, Illinois. It is a part of the Chicago Public Schools district and is managed by the Academy for Urban School Leadership. The school is named after labor leader Rezin Orr. History Orr traces its origins to 1918, when it was opened as an elementary school. It began hosting high school students in the 1920s, when it became a branch of Austin High School. From the 1940s to the 1950s, Orr was used a vocational school for seventh and eighth grade boys, and for a short period it served as a temporary home for Our Lady of the Angels School after that school was ravaged by a fire in 1958. Orr was then used as a branch of Marshall High School before becoming an independent high school in 1963. Orr moved into a new building in 1973. ''The Lathe of Heaven'' is a 1971 science fiction novel by American writer Ursula K. Le Guin. The plot concerns a character whose dreams alter past and present reality. The story was serialized in the American science fiction magazine ''Amazing Stories''. The novel received nominations for the 1972 Hugo Award, Hugo and the 1971 Nebula Award, and won the Locus Award for Best Novel in 1972. Orr (Catch-22)
Orr is a fictional character in the classic 1961 novel ''Catch-22'' by Joseph Heller. Orr is a World War II bomber pilot who shares a tent with his good friend, the protagonist of the novel, Yossarian. Described as "a warm-hearted, simple-minded gnome," Orr is generally considered crazy. His most notable feature is repeatedly being shot down over water, but, until his final flight, always managing to survive along with his entire crew. On his final flight, perhaps two-thirds of the way through the novel, he is again shot down into the Mediterranean, and is lost at sea. Only in the last ten pages of the novel does Heller reveal that Orr's crashes were part of an elaborate (and successful) plot to escape the war.
