Orléans-Longueville
Duke of Longueville (''Longueville-sur-Scie'') was a title of French nobility, though not a peerage of France. History The title was created in 1505 by King Louis XII of France for his first cousin once removed, François d'Orléans, Count of Dunois, son of François d'Orléans, Count of Dunois, son of Jean d'Orléans, himself an illegitimate son of the Duke of Orléans. The title became extinct in 1694, following the death of Jean Louis Charles d'Orléans, who was the brother of Marie de Nemours. From 1648, the Duke of Longueville was also Sovereign Prince of Neuchâtel, a Swiss territory. In 1654, the eighth duke was created a peer as Duke of Coulommiers, but the peerage was never registered and so became extinct at his death. Marie De Nemours
Marie de Nemours, originally known as Marie d'Orléans-Longueville (1625–1707), was Princess of Neuchâtel from 1694 to 1707. She was the daughter of Henri II d'Orléans, duc de Longueville and Louise de Bourbon. After the death of her brother Jean Louis Charles d'Orléans-Longueville in 1694 she succeeded him as sovereign Princess of Neuchâtel, although she remained a prominent member of the French royal court. Biography Descended from Jean d'Orléans, illegitimate son of Louis I, Duke of Orléans, she was known as Mademoiselle de Longueville prior to her marriage. By her marriage with Henri of Savoy, she became Duchess of Nemours. The couple were married on 22 May 1657 at Trie. Jacqueline de Rohan, Marquise de Rothelin (c. 1520 – 1587) was a French court official and aristocrat. She was the daughter of Charles de Rohan and Jeanne de Saint-Severin, and regent of the Neufchâtel and of Valangin during the minority of her son Leonor, Duke de Longueville, Duke d' Estouteville. Biography Her paternal grandparents were Pierre de Rohan, Viscount de Fronsac and Françoise de Penhoet. Louis I d'Orléans, Duke of Longueville (1480 – Beaugency, 1 August 1516), was a French aristocrat and general, Grand Chamberlain of France and governor of Provence. Louis was the second son of François I, Duke of Longueville, and Agnes of Savoy. He succeeded his elder brother François II in 1512, and became Duke of Longueville, Count of Montgommery, Count of Tancarville, Prince of Châlet-Aillon, Marquis of Rothelin and viscount of Abberville. His paternal grandfather, Jean, Count of Dunois, was the illegitimate son of Louis I, Duke of Orléans – son of King Charles V of France. On 16 August 1513, Louis was taken prisoner by the English at the battle of the Spurs when he attempted to bring relief to the siege of Thérouanne. Louis II d'Orléans, duc de Longueville and comte de Dunois (1510 – 9 June 1537) was a French aristocrat and the first husband of Mary of Guise, who later became queen consort of Scotland and mother to Mary, Queen of Scots. He was the second son of Louis I d'Orléans, duc de Longueville by his wife Jeanne of Hochberg, and succeeded his brother Claude when the latter died in 1524. Henri II d'Orléans, duc de Longueville or Henri de Valois-Longueville (6 April 1595 – 11 May 1663), a legitimated prince of France (of royal descent) and peer of France, was a major figure during the Fronde, and served as governor of Picardy, then of Normandy. Jean d'Orléans, Count of Dunois (23 November 1402 – 24 November 1468), known as the "Bastard of Orléans" (french: bâtard d'Orléans) or simply Jean de Dunois, was a French military leader during the Hundred Years' War who participated in military campaigns with Joan of Arc. His nickname, the "Bastard of Orléans", was a mark of his high status, since it acknowledged him as a first cousin to the king and acting head of a cadet branch of the royal family during his half-brother's captivity.
