Orlando Pantera
Orlando Monteiro Barreto (1 November 1967, in São Lourenço dos Órgãos – 1 March 2001, in Praia, Santiago), better known as Orlando Pantera was a Cape Verdean singer and composer. Three of its songs were recorded in the album ''Porton d'nôs Ilha'' (''Gates of the Island'') by the group Os Tubarões. In the early 1990s, he was part of different musical groups including Pentágono, the Capeverdeans Jazz Band quintet and Arkor. He was an author of series of composition which he earned him a nomination of the Composer of the Year in 1993. Along with João Lucas, he was part of the spectacular band "Dan Dau", a Portuguese company by Clara Andermatt which they collaborated in 1998 in ''Uma História da Dúvida''. He wrote songs for some workers of the Cape Verdean dancing company Raiz di Polon. Silvino Lopes Évora is a Cape Verdean writer, poet, journalist and a university professor. Biography He was born in the village of Chão Bom nearly south of Tarrafal, he later attended primary school and a preparatory cycle. He achieved secondary education at Liceu de Santa Catarina in Assomada. Later, he went to the city of Praia after he finished his twelfth year of school. He finished with student licenses. Silvino Lopes Évora returned to Tarrafal, where he taught the Portuguese language at Escola Secundária do Tarrafal (Tarrafal Secondary School) for two straight years. Leonel Almeida
Leonel Almeida (born May 17, 1952)) is a Cape Verdean singer. He began his career at the age of 17 and was a member of the group Birds with guitarist and producer Paulino Vieira. He has recorded versions of songs by other groups. Almeida was drafted into the Portuguese army at the age of 20. This experience was a turning point of his life; he became politically aware and began to sing intervention songs. Mayra Andrade
Mayra Andrade (born 13 February 1985) is a Cape Verdean singer who lives and records in Lisbon, Portugal. Background Andrade was born in Havana, Cuba, to parents from Cape Verde, and she and her family returned to Cape Verde a few days after her birth. Andrade spent the first years of her life in Cape Verde, but because her father was a diplomat for the Cape Verdean government, she traveled extensively with her family and lived in many countries during her childhood. Hence, during her childhood, she lived in Senegal, Angola, and Germany. However, she spent around two months of the year in the Cape Verdean island of Santiago. Andrade moved to Paris in 2002 when she was 17 years old and lived there until late 2015 when she moved to Lisbon, Portugal. Tcheka (Manuel Lopes Andrade; born in Ribeira da Barca, Santiago, Cape Verde, on July 20, 1973) is a Cape Verdean singer, songwriter and guitarist, who is well known for his work in transposing the traditional genre batuque to the electro-acoustic guitar. Biography Tcheka grew up in a musical family. By age 14, Tcheka began playing with his famous violinist father, Nho Raul Andrade, at local festivals, weddings and baptisms. By the time Tcheka reached 15, he began developing his own style, incorporating the genre batuque with his guitar. As a young man, Tcheka left his rural home and went to live in the capital, Praia.
