Orlandina Basket, known as Infodrive Capo d'Orlando for sponsorship reasons, is an Italian professional basketball club that is based in Capo d'Orlando, Sicily. It plays in the second tier Serie A2 Basket. Founded in 1978, it was one of the youngest teams of the Serie A 2007-2008 based on foundation date, with in addition being the city with fewest citizens. Financial issues forced the team to restart from the Serie C Dilettanti after being excluded from Serie A in October 2008, but thanks to two promotions and two repechages the team managed to climb back to the upper-most league, where it competed for four years before being relegated to the lower league in 2018. Serie A2, known for sponsorship reasons as Serie A2 Old Wild West, is a men's basketball league in Italy. It constitutes the second-tier of the Italian league pyramid, below the first division LBA and above the third division Serie B, with promotion/relegation occurring between these leagues. It is run by the Lega Nazionale Pallacanestro (LNP), itself regulated by the FIP, the Italian federation. Names History The league was created in May 1974, by the Lega Basket, the organisation in charge of running the LBA (to this day), that decided to create a new second division with 10 clubs. The two that were relegated during that season, and 8 from the now-former second tier Serie B, chosen with an on and off the court criteria. The Italian basketball league system or Italian basketball league pyramid, is a series of interconnected competitions for professional basketball clubs in Italy. The system has a hierarchical format with a promotion and demotion system between competitions at different levels. Soumaila Samake
Soumaila Samake (born March 18, 1978) is a Malian former professional basketball player. A 7'0" tall center, he was drafted by the New Jersey Nets in the second round of the 2000 NBA draft, and played for the Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers. He scored 68 points and grabbed 76 rebounds in 47 NBA games between 2000 and 2003. His final NBA game was played on December 4th, 2002 in a 85 - 93 loss to the Utah Jazz where he played for 2 minutes and recorded no stats. While playing with the Lakers in 2002, Samake was suspended five games after testing positive for Nandrolone, an anabolic steroid. Samake said that he had accidentally ingested the substance while taking a dietary supplement. Otis Hill (born 31 March 1974) is an American former professional basketball player. He played as a power forward. He is a graduate of Pleasantville High School in New York State, played basketball there and won many awards. At Pleasantville High School, Otis was also a standout in football and a member of the 1991 undefeated season when the team was ranked #1 in the state. Joseph Keith Carter (born October 17, 1976) is an American college athletics administrator, currently the Athletic Director for the Ole Miss Rebels of the Southeastern Conference. Carter played professional basketball for nine seasons, primarily in Italy. Carter came to Ole Miss from Perryville High School in Perryville, Arkansas. He was a four-year starter for the Rebels from 1995 to 1999, earning second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors as a junior and first-team as a senior. Carter was also named an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press in 1999. For his college career, Carter scored 1,682 points. Matteo Soragna (born 26 December 1975) is an Italian former professional basketball player. He can switch between all perimeter positions (shooting guard, small forward and point guard). He was part of the Italian national team that won a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Gianluca Basile (born 24 January 1975) is an Italian former professional basketball player. At a height of 1.92 m (6'3 ") tall and a weight of 95 kg (210 lbs.), he mainly played at the shooting guard position. He is considered one of the best 1990s and 2000s era Italian basketball players. He won the silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, and the gold medal at the 1999 EuroBasket. He was also the captain of the men's Italy national team.
