Punjab University Oriental College, commonly known as Oriental College, is an institution of oriental studies in Lahore. It is located next to Government College University, Lahore. It was founded by Adi Brahmo Samaj preacher Pundit Navin Chandra Rai in 1876. He served as its vice principal from 1861. Aurel Stein, the noted Hungarian-British archaeologist, was principal from 1888 to 1899. The University of the Punjab (Urdu, pnb, ), also referred to as Punjab University, is a public, research, coeducational higher education institution located in Lahore, Pakistan. Punjab University is the oldest public university in Pakistan. With multiple campuses in Gujranwala, Jhelum, and Khanspur, the university was formally established by the British Government after convening the first meeting for establishing higher education institutions in October 1882 at Simla. Khurshid Rizvi
Khurshid Rizvi (ڈاکٹرخورشید رضوی) is a Pakistani scholar of languages and an Urdu poet. Early life Rizvi was born on 8 December 1940 in Amroha, Muradabad (India) in a Sunni Sadaat family. As a young child, he immigrated with his family to Montgomery in 1948 (now Sahiwal), Punjab (Pakistan). He studied at Islamia High School, and Government High School & finally graduated from Government College, Montgomery in 1959. He moved to the University Oriental College Lahore for higher studies and earned his MA in Arabic in 1961. Later, he got his Ph.D. in Arabic from the same university in 1981. Publications Rizvi has authored and edited books in many languages on a range of subjects including seven poetry collections to date. Shamsul Huda Panchbagi
Shamsul Huda Panchbagi ( bn, শামছুল হুদা পাঁচবাগী; 1897 – 24 September 1988) was an Islamic scholar and politician from Bangladesh. He was a member of the Bengal Legislative Assembly and later founded the Emarat Party which supported the advocated for United Bengal. Early life and education Panchbagi was born in 1897, to a Bengali Muslim family in Maijbari in Gafargaon of Mymensingh. His parents were Muhammad Riaz Uddin and Umme Kulsum. Saeed Ahmad Akbarabadi
Saeed Ahmad Akbarabadi (1908 – 24 May 1985) was an Indian Islamic scholar and an Urdu-language author who co-founded the Nadwatul Musannifeen. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Theology in Aligarh Muslim University. Akbarabadi was an alumnus of Jamia Qasmia Madrasa Shahi, Darul Uloom Deoband, St. Stephen's College, Delhi and the Oriental College, Lahore. Anwar Masood ( ur, , pnb, ); born 8 November 1935) is a Pakistani poet known for his comic poetry. However, his works include other genres as well. He writes in Punjabi, Urdu and Persian languages. His poetry is known for the unique use of everyday, commonplace phrases and wording that is instantly relatable for masses in the region. Numerous of his Punjabi lines and phrases have actually become a figure of speech in everyday conversations. Oriental studies is the academic field that studies Near Eastern and Far Eastern societies and cultures, languages, peoples, history and archaeology.
