The Orient is a term for the East in relation to Europe, traditionally comprising anything belonging to the Eastern world. It is the antonym of ''Occident'', the Western World. In English, it is largely a metonym for, and coterminous with, the continent of Asia, loosely classified into the Western Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, East Asia, and sometimes including the Caucasus. Originally, the term ''Orient'' was used to designate only the Near East, and later its meaning evolved and expanded, designating also the Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, or the Far East. The term ''oriental'' is often used to describe objects from the Orient; however in the United States it is considered an outdated and often offensive term by some, especially when used to refer to people of East Asian and Southeast Asian descent. Orient Township is a civil township of Osceola County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 803 at the 2000 census. Communities There are no incorporated municipalities in the township. There are a few unincorporated communities: *Sears is a small farming community in the northwest part of the township, between US 10 and the railroad line, originally built the Flint and Pere Marquette Railway (later the Pere Marquette Railway. Orient Heights (MBTA Station)
Orient Heights station is a rapid transit station in Boston, Massachusetts. The station serves the MBTA Blue Line. It is located off Bennington Street in East Boston's Orient Heights neighborhood. Formerly a Boston, Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad station under various names from 1875 to 1940, it reopened in 1952. The 1952-built station was closed in March 2013 for a complete rebuilding to provide full accessibility and reopened on November 26, 2013. Orient Heights station is the primary rapid transit connection for the Orient Heights neighborhood of East Boston, as well as for Winthrop. Orient Heights is a historic section of Boston, Massachusetts, United States, and is commonly considered part of East Boston; it is Boston's northernmost and northeasternmost neighborhood. The neighborhood sits on a hill, which measures 152 feet in elevation at its highest point. Orient, Oregon, is an unincorporated community in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. The community is centered at SE Orient Drive at 302nd Avenue, near Gresham, which is the rough location of the former Orient Post Office. Orient is a former village (United States)#Ohio, village in Pickaway County, Ohio, United States. The population was 270 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census. Orient is home to the Pickaway Correctional Institution and the Correctional Reception Center. History Orient was established as a station on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in the northwest corner of Scioto township. Local residents began seeking dissolution in January 2012. Oriental is one of nine incorporated municipalities in Pamlico County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 880, according to the 2020 census. It is part of the New Bern Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The area was settled by Native Americans, who fished and farmed in the creeks and river long before Europeans arrived. Today, fewer than one percent of the town's residents are Native American.
