District 29 of the Oregon State Senate comprises all of Gilliam County, Oregon, Gilliam, Morrow County, Oregon, Morrow, Sherman County, Oregon, Sherman, Umatilla County, Oregon, Umatilla, Union County, Oregon, Union, and Wallowa County, Oregon, Wallowa counties, as well as parts of Wasco County, Oregon, Wasco County. It is currently represented by Republican Bill Hansell of Pendleton, Oregon, Pendleton. Election results District boundaries have changed over time, therefore, senators before 2013 may not represent the same constituency as today. From 1993 until 2003 and from 2003 until 2013 it covered a slightly different area in northeastern Oregon. Pendleton, Oregon
Pendleton is a city and the county seat of Umatilla County, Oregon. The population was 17,107 at the time of the 2020 census, which includes approximately 1,600 people who are incarcerated at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution. Pendleton is the smaller of the two principal cities of the Hermiston–Pendleton Micropolitan Statistical Area. This micropolitan area covers Morrow and Umatilla counties and had a combined population of 92,261 at the 2020 census. Independent Party Of Oregon
The Independent Party of Oregon (IPO) is a centrist political party in the U.S. state of Oregon with more than 135,000 registrants since its inception in January 2007. The IPO is Oregon's third-largest political party and the first political party other than the Democratic Party and Republican Party to be recognized by the state of Oregon as a major political party. Since 2009, the party has had multiple city and local officials elected as members. In 2021 State Senator Brian Boquist, a former Republican, became the only Independent member of the state legislature. Bill Hansell is an American Republican politician who is a current member of the Oregon Senate, representing the 29th District. When Oregon State Senator David Nelson, Senator Hansell's predecessor retired, he invited Hansell to run for his senate seat. Hansell went on to win both primary and general elections in 2012. He currently serves on the Ways and Means Committee, Environment and Natural Resources Committee, and the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Transportation and Economic Development. Oregon State Senate
The Oregon State Senate is the upper house of the statewide legislature for the US state of Oregon. Along with the lower chamber Oregon House of Representatives it makes up the Oregon Legislative Assembly. There are 30 members of the state Senate, representing 30 districts across the state, each with a population of 127,700. The state Senate meets in the east wing of the Oregon State Capitol in Salem. Oregon state senators serve four-year terms without term limits. In 2002, the Oregon Supreme Court struck down the decade-old Oregon Ballot Measure 3, that had restricted state senators to two terms (eight years) on procedural grounds. Wasco County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,213. Its county seat is The Dalles. The county is named for a local tribe of Native Americans, the Wasco, a Chinook tribe who live on the south side of the Columbia River. It is near the Washington state line.
