The Order of Physicians ( pt, Ordem dos Médicos) is the public entity that serves as the regulatory and licensing body for medical practitioners in Portugal. ElÃsio de Moura Azevedo, (born 30 August 1877 in Braga – 18 June 1977 in Coimbra) was a Brazilian physician, professor, psychiatrist and the first president of the College of Physicians in 1939. Biography ElÃsio de Moura was notable for teaching and research in psychiatry and neurology. He contributed, in the beginning of the Republic, to keep the faculty of medicine at the University of Coimbra, which was at risk of moving to the new University of Lisbon and University of Porto. Residency or postgraduate training is specifically a stage of graduate medical education. It refers to a qualified physician (one who holds the degree of MD, DO, MBBS, MBChB), veterinarian ( DVM or VMD) , dentist ( DDS or DMD) or podiatrist ( DPM) who practices medicine, veterinary medicine , dentistry, or podiatry, respectively, usually in a hospital or clinic, under the direct or indirect supervision of a senior medical clinician registered in that specialty such as an attending physician or consultant. In many jurisdictions, successful completion of such training is a requirement in order to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine, and in particular a license to practice a chosen specialty.
