Ord Bend (also Ordbend) is a small unincorporated community about above mean sea level in Glenn County, California. For road traffic, Ord Bend is along State Route 45 between Glenn and Hamilton City. It's about eight miles (13 km) south of Hamilton City. The ZIP Code, shared with Glenn and Bayliss, is 95943. The community is inside area code 530. This area is flagged as rural by the U.S. Census Bureau. The Sacramento River passes east of the area. Much of the nearby area is agricultural land under cultivation with rice, almonds, walnuts, olives and prunes. Sandhill cranes are evident in the area during winter. Prunes
A prune is a dried plum, most commonly from the European plum (''Prunus domestica''). Not all plum species or varieties can be dried into prunes. A prune is the firm-fleshed fruit (plum) of ''Prunus domestica'' varieties that have a high soluble solids content, and does not ferment during drying. Edward Ord
Edward Otho Cresap Ord (October 18, 1818 – July 22, 1883) was an American engineer and United States Army officer who saw action in the Seminole War, the Indian Wars, and the American Civil War. He commanded an army during the final days of the Civil War, and was instrumental in forcing the surrender of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. He also designed Fort Sam Houston. He died in Havana, Cuba of yellow fever. Early life and career Ord was born in Cumberland, Maryland, the son of James and Rebecca Ord. In the United States Armed Forces, a major general is a two-star general officer in the United States Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Space Force. Colusa, California
Colusa is a city and county seat of Colusa County, California, located in the Sacramento Valley region of the Central Valley. The population was 5,971 at the 2010 census, up from 5,402 at the 2000 census. Colusi originates from the local Coru Native American tribe, who in the 1840s lived on the opposite side of the Sacramento River. History In 1850, Charles D. Hamilton Union High School
Hamilton Union High School is a public high school located at 620 Canal Street in Hamilton City, California. It serves grades nine through twelve. Sandhill Crane
The sandhill crane (''Antigone canadensis'') is a species of large crane of North America and extreme northeastern Siberia. The common name of this bird refers to habitat like that at the Platte River, on the edge of Nebraska's Sandhills on the American Great Plains. Sandhill Cranes are known to hangout at the edges of bodies of water especially in the Central Florida region.
