Orbis Pictus (film)
''Orbis Pictus'' is a 1997 Slovak film, starring Dorota Nvotová, Marián Labuda, Božidara Turzonovová, Július Satinský, Emília Vášáryová and František Kovár. The film, directed by Martin Šulík, won Special Award of the Jury at the International Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg in Baden-Württemberg, Germany as the Best Film in 1997. The film was selected as the Slovak entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 70th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee. Plot After being kicked out of boarding school sixteen-year-old Terezka goes on a fantasy-filled surrealistic journey to find her estranged mother. Martin Šulík
Martin Šulík (born October 20, 1962, in Žilina) is a Slovak film director. He studied film directing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava from which he graduated in 1986. His 2011 film ''Gypsy'' was selected as the Slovak entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards, but it did not make the final shortlist. Martin Sulik is also an avid painter and has had his artwork shown in Bratislava Galleries. Iveta Malachovská
Iveta Malachovská (; born 11 May 1965) is a Slovak television presenter and actress. She has presented television programmes on stations including Czechoslovak Television, Slovenská televízia (STV) and Markíza. This is a list of submissions to the 70th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 70th Academy Awards, forty-four films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The submission deadline was set on November 1, 1997. Juraj Jakubisko
Juraj Jakubisko (born 30 April 1938) is a Slovak film director. He has directed fifteen feature films, between 1967 and 2008. He often takes the dual role of cinematographer, and is often also credited as a screenplay writer as he usually co-writes or writes the scripts of his movies. In 2000 he was named Best Slovak Director of the 20th century by film critics and journalists. His work is often described as magical realism. Career Before entering the film industry, Jakubisko taught still photography at a secondary school for applied arts in Bratislava, and worked for a television company in Košice. Klára Issová (born 26 April 1979), sometimes known as Klára Issa, is a Czech film, stage and television actress. Conducting is the art of directing a musical performance, such as an orchestral or choral concert. It has been defined as "the art of directing the simultaneous performance of several players or singers by the use of gesture." Marek Štryncl
Marek Štryncl (born 1974) is a Czech conductor, violoncellist, choirmaster and composer. He is the founder and leader of Baroque music ensemble Musica Florea. Biography Marek Štryncl was born in Jablonec nad Nisou, but he comes from the village of Skuhrov, Czech Republic. He studied violoncello at the Teplice conservatory and graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU) in 2002 in the field of conducting. He has also studied cello at the Dresdner Akademie für alte Musik, and completed a course of studies in Baroque cello performance in France, Germany and Switzerland. He was still a student when he established the ensemble Musica Florea in 1992. A make-up artist, also called a makeup artist, and often shortened to MUA, is an artist whose medium is the human body, applying makeup and prosthetics on others for theatre, television, film, fashion, magazines and other similar productions including all aspects of the modeling industry.
