Orbie Bowling
Orbie Lee "Orb" Bowling (born March 31, 1939) is a 6'10" retired American basketball player. A native of Sandy Hook, Kentucky he was also known as "Chief." Bowling played collegiately for the University of Tennessee. Bowling was selected by the New York Knicks in the 11th round (78th pick overall) of the 1963 NBA draft. Bowling played for the Washington Generals, including a game in front of the Queen of the United Kingdom. Sandy Hook, Kentucky
Sandy Hook is a home rule-class city beside the Little Sandy River in Elliott County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 675 at the 2010 census. Sandy Hook is the county seat of Elliott County, which is a dry county. It is illegal to sell alcohol within the city. The Little Sandy Correctional Complex, a medium-security prison operated by the Kentucky Department of Corrections, is located northeast of Sandy Hook. History The head of navigation on the Little Sandy River was first settled in the 1820s. The Washington Generals are an United States, American basketball team who play Exhibition game, exhibition games against the Harlem Globetrotters. The team has also played under several different Pseudonym, aliases in their history as the Globetrotters' perennial opponents. Function The Generals exist primarily as a part of the Harlem Globetrotters' act, effectively being Straight man (stock character), stooges for the Globetrotters. While the Globetrotters play tricks and spectacular displays of skill for the crowd, the Generals attempt to play a "normal" game of basketball. 1963 NBA Draft
The 1963 NBA draft was the 17th annual draft of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The draft was held on April 30 and May 7, 1963, before the 1963–64 season. In this draft, nine NBA teams took turns selecting amateur U.S. college basketball players. A player who had finished his four-year college eligibility was eligible for selection. If a player left college early, he would not be eligible for selection until his college class graduated. In each round, the teams select in reverse order of their win–loss record in the previous season.
