Akan People
The Akan () people live primarily in present-day Ghana and Ivory Coast in West Africa. Opoku Afriyie (February 2, 1955 - March 29, 2020) was a Ghanaian footballer. He was popularly called Bayie. He played as a striker and won many caps with Asante Kotoko and the Ghana national football team. He worked for Asante Kotoko as Team-Manager. Club career Opoku Afriyie played for Asante Kotoko for several years before signing for Hearts of Oak prior to ending his footballing career. Opoku Ware II
Otumfuo Opoku Ware II (born Jacob Matthew Poku, 30 November 1919 – 26 February 1999) was the 15th Asantehene. He succeeded his uncle Osei Tutu Agyeman Prempeh II on the 27th July 1970. He ruled for 29 years until his death in February 1999. He was succeeded by Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II. Early life and education The future monarch was born under the name Jacob Matthew Poku in Kumasi the capital of Ashanti Region, Ashanti, then the Ashanti Protectorate, in 1919 into the Ashanti royal family. Theophilus Opoku
Theophilus Herman Kofi Opoku (1842 – 7 July 1913) was a native Akan people, Akan Linguistics, linguist, Translation, translator, Philology, philologist, Teacher, educator and Christian mission, missionary who became the first indigenous African to be ordained a pastor on Gold Coast (British colony), Gold Coast soil by the Basel Mission in 1872. Opoku worked closely with the German missionary and philologist Johann Gottlieb Christaller as well as fellow native Akan linguists, David Asante, Jonathan Palmer Bekoe, and Paul Staudt Keteku in the translation of the Bible into the Twi, Twi language. Sonia Opoku (born 25 December 2001) is a Ghanaian international footballer who plays as a midfielder for the Indian Women's League club Misaka United and the Ghana women's national team. Samuel Opoku Nti (born January 23, 1961, in Kumasi) is a former Ghanaian football forward. Biography He is generally considered to have been Ghana's top footballer in the early to mid-1980s; before the international advent of Abedi Pele. Opoku Nti featured in Ghana's victorious 1982 African cup winning side as well as the unsuccessful 1984 squad; which was eliminated in the 1st round of the competition. Nana Opoku Agyemang-Prempeh (born 7 June 1989) commonly known as Agyemang Opoku, is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder.
