Operation Munja '93
Operation Munja 93 was one of the most successful operations from the Army of the Republic of Bosnia executed by the 505th Buzim brigade where they liberated a considerable area of state territory in the area of Banjani. Background The Operation was planned in great secrecy in October 1992. 360 fighters from the 505th Buzim Brigade were engaged for this operation and they were divide into six groups. The same number of fighters were engaged without weapons, behind the first combat groups, and their task was to evacuate the wounded and killed in battle and to pass the weapons of the dead and wounded and possibly captured barrels to the fighters without weapons. On the Serbian side there was one battalion of the 1st Novigrad Light Brigade, who did not suffer from the same lack of weapons as the Bosnians and were well armed. The Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina ( bs, Armija Republike Bosne i Hercegovine or ARBiH), often referred to as Bosnian Army, was the military force of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was established by the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992 following the outbreak of the Bosnian War. Following the end of the war, and the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement in 1995, it was transformed into the Army of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina ( sh-Latn-Cyrl, separator=" / ", Republika Bosna i Hercegovina, Република Босна и Херцеговина) was a state in Southeastern Europe, existing from 1992 to 1995. Izet Nanić
Izet Nanić (4 October 1965 – 5 August 1995) was a Bosnian Army brigade commander during the Bosnian war of independence in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Family An ethnic Bosnian Muslim, Izet Nanić was born to Ibrahim Nanić (1939–2000) and Rasima (born 1945) in the town of Bužim, as second of seven children. His younger brother Nevzet was killed near Bosanska Krupa on 30 June 1992, at the start of the war in Bosnia. He was married to Safija Remetić, from Varoška Rijeka. Together they had three children; a daughter and two sons. Career Until January 1991, Nanić was an officer of the Yugoslav People's Army, when he returned to his home in Bužim due to a broken leg. The Bosnian War ( sh, Rat u Bosni i Hercegovini / Рат у Босни и Херцеговини) was an international armed conflict that took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995. The war is commonly seen as having started on 6 April 1992, following a number of earlier violent incidents. The war ended on 14 December 1995 when the Dayton accords were signed. The 505th Bužim Brigade (''505. Bužimska brigada'') was part of the 5th Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 5th Corps under the command of Brigadier General Izet Nanić. The 505th Knightly Motorized brigade was honored by the late president of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alija Izetbegović, as the most elite brigade during the Bosnian War. The 505th Knightly Motorized brigade was commanded by Izet Nanić from its creation to his death in 1995. The Army of Republika Srpska ( sr, Војска Републике Српске/Vojska Republike Srpske; ВРС/VRS), commonly referred to in English as the Bosnian Serb Army, was the military of Republika Srpska (RS), the self-proclaimed Serb secessionist republic, a territory within the newly independent Bosnia and Herzegovina (formerly part of Yugoslavia), which it defied and fought against.
