The East China Sea is an arm of the Western Pacific Ocean, located directly offshore from East China. It covers an area of roughly . The sea’s northern extension between mainland China and the Korean Peninsula is the Yellow Sea, separated by an imaginary line between the eastern tip of Qidong at the Yangtze River estuary and the southwestern tip of South Korea's Jeju Island. USS Nimble (AM-266)
USS ''Nimble'' (AM-266) was an built for the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was built to clear minefields in offshore waters, and served the Navy in the Atlantic Ocean and then was transferred to the Pacific Ocean. Post-war, she returned home with three battle stars. ''Nimble'' was laid down 2 August 1943 by the American Ship Building Company, Lorain, Ohio; launched 24 December 1943; and commissioned 15 September 1944. World War II Atlantic operations ''Nimble'' departed Cleveland, Ohio, 21 September 1944 and proceeded via the St. Lawrence River to the Atlantic and down the coast to Little Creek, Virginia, for shakedown exercises in Chesapeake Bay. From there she steamed south to Key West, Florida, for ASW training and on 20 December reported to the Naval Training Center Miami, Florida, for duty as a school ship.
