Opera Soft
Opera Soft was a Spanish computer game developer of the Golden Era of Spanish Software of the 1980s. It released many games for the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and similar computers in the mid-1980s, but its games were not as popular on the PC. Founded in 1986, the company obtained success with its title '' Livingstone, supongo'' (''Livingstone, I Presume'') in the same year. The game is based on the 19th-century explorer Dr. Livingstone. Within Spain, one of their most popular games was ''La Abadía del Crimen'' (''The Abbey of Crime''), based on Umberto Eco's novel ''The Name of the Rose''. Like many other Spanish software companies of the time, Opera Soft did not adapt to the generational change and went out of business in the early 1990s with the emergence of 16-bit video games. Pyro Mobile was a video game developer based in Madrid, Spain, established in 2012 as a merger between Play Wireless and Pyro Studios and eventually ceasing operations in the second half of 2017. It is mostly known for its real-time tactics games series, ''Commandos (series), Commandos''. Pyro Studios Pyro Studios was founded in 1996 with the purpose of developing quality video games. The result of this commitment was the development of ''Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines'', which was released in 1998 and became the decade's most successful Spanish game. Francisco "Paco" Menéndez (1965–1999) was a Spanish computer game programmer who wrote games for 8-bit computers. His most famous work is ''La abadía del crimen'' which is regarded as one of the best games made for the ZX Spectrum. Early works Menéndez's first work was ''Fred (computer game), Fred'', an arcade maze game released in 1983 which was followed by a sequel, ''Sir Fred'', in 1986. Both games were later distributed in the United Kingdom and translated into English. Quicksilva distributed ''Fred'' while Mikro-Gen handled ''Sir Freds UK release. Both games were well received with critics, and ''Crash Magazine'' gave ''Sir Fred'' a 91 percent rating.
