The Open Air Theatre, Barra Hall Park, Hayes is a purpose-built outdoor theatre with concrete-step seating for up to 180 people. Originally built in 1951, the structure fell into disrepair and was rebuilt in steel in 2005. Type The Open Air Theatre in Barra Hall Park is a modern, steel-built structure. Barra Hall Park
Barra Hall Park is an formal park situated near the centre of Hayes in the ward of Townfield in the London Borough of Hillingdon. The park came into existence in December 1923. The main entrance to the park is off Freemans Lane. There are ten entrances all together, spread around the perimeter of the park. History Barra Hall Park came into existence on 20 December 1923 when the then Urban District Council (UDC) of Hayes bought the Hall and its grounds from Ms Ethel Penfold for £5,700 in order to use it as a town hall. Later alterations by the UDC brought the total to £7,000. The Barra Hall building was officially opened as town hall on 23 February 1924 and its grounds became a municipal park with playground, tennis courts and a paddling pool opened by music hall star Jessie Matthews. Angela Brady OBE is an Irish-born Irish/British architect and has lived in London for over 25 years. ''Persuasion'' is the last novel completed by Jane Austen. It was published on December 20, 1817, along with ''Northanger Abbey'', six months after her death, although the title page is dated 1818. The story concerns Anne Elliot, an Englishwoman of 27 years, whose family moves to lower their expenses and reduce their debt by renting their home to an Admiral and his wife. The wife's brother, Captain Frederick Wentworth, was engaged to Anne in 1806, but the engagement was broken when Anne was persuaded by her friends and family to end their relationship. Anne and Captain Wentworth, both single and unattached, meet again after a seven-year separation, setting the scene for many humorous encounters as well as a second, well-considered chance at love and marriage for Anne. The novel was well-received in the early 19th century, but its greater fame came later in the century and continued into the 20th and 21st centuries.
