Opava District ( cs, okres Opava) is a district (''okres'') within Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. Its capital is the city of Opava. Districts Of The Czech Republic
Districts of the Czech Republic are territorial units, formerly used as second-level administrative divisions of the Czech Republic. After their primary administrative function has been abolished in 2003, they still exist for the activities of specific authorities and as statistical units. Their administrative function was moved to selected municipalities. Establishment In 1960, Czechoslovakia was re-divided into districts ('' okres'', plural ''okresy'') often without regard to traditional division and local relationships. In the area of the Czech Republic, there were 75 districts; the 76th Jeseník District was split in the 1990s from Šumperk District. Three consisted only of statutory cities Brno, Ostrava and Plzeň which gained the status of districts only in 1971; Ostrava and Plzeň districts were later expanded. Háj ve Slezsku (; german: Freiheitsau) is a municipality and village in Opava District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 3,200 inhabitants. Dolní Benešov (, formerly Benešov u Hlučína; german: Beneschau) is a town in Opava District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 3,900 inhabitants. It is part of the historical Hlučín Region. Administrative parts The village of Zábřeh is an administrative part of Dolní Benešov. Geography Dolní Benešov is located in the Opava Uplands. Děhylov
Děhylov (german: Dielhau) is a municipality and village in Opava District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 800 inhabitants. Geography Děhylov lies near Ostrava in the eastern tip of the Nízký Jeseník mountain range. It is located on the right bank of the Opava River, which forms the municipal border. In the eastern part of the municipality there is Štěpán fish pond, protected together with its surroundings as a nature reserve. History The first written mention of Děhylov is from 1464. The settlement was founded between 1377 and 1400. Darkovice
Darkovice (german: Groß Darkowitz) is a municipality and village in Opava District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,400 inhabitants. It is part of historic Hlučín Region. History The first written mention of Darkovice is in a deed of Pope Innocent IV from 1250, in which it is stated that King Wenceslaus I of Bohemia donated the village to the Cistercian monastery in Velehrad. Before 1265 a new village called Žibřidovice was established near Darkovice, and the oldest pond in the region was established between them. After the death of King Ottokar II of Bohemia, battles for inheritance took place, and Žibřidovice ceased to exist and Darkovice was abandoned during this war. In 1320, Darkovice became part of the Landek estate and was administered by the burgrave Přesek of Lichnov, who renewed the village.
