Ontario Highway 125
King's Highway 125, commonly referred to as Highway 125, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. It is the second northernmost provincial highway in Ontario, behind Secondary Highway 599. The route connects Highway 105 in Red Lake with Cochenour to the northeast. It was built in the early 1950s and assumed as a gravel-surfaced provincial highway in 1955. The route was paved in 1962 and remains generally unchanged today. Route description Highway125 is long and travels from Highway105 in Red Lake to the ferry docks in the Cochenour/McKenzie Island area. Beyond Cochenour and Balmertown, unmaintained forestry roads travel northwards to Pikangikum, and link to winter/ice roads that service communities even further north. The only provincially maintained highway that travels further north is secondary Highway 599 to Pickle Lake. Red Lake Mine
The Red Lake mine was one of the largest gold mines in Canada and in the world. The mine is located in northwestern Ontario at Red Lake, Ontario, Red Lake. The mine had estimated reserves of 3.23 million oz of gold in 2013. Note that the Campbell and Red Lake mines are (or were) mining the same orebody, commonly referred to as the Campbell-Red Lake deposit. The Red Lake Mining District has produced over 26 million ounces of gold through 2020, worth over $US 46 billion at 2020 prices. Pickle Lake, Ontario
Pickle Lake is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario, and is the most northerly community in the province that has year-round access by road. Located north of Thunder Bay, highway access is via Highway 599, the only access road to the town from the south. More northerly communities rely on winter roads for access and are cut off to land travel in the summer. Highway 599 meets the Northern Ontario Resource Trail, formerly Tertiary Highway 808, at Pickle Lake.
