Onogur Islands
Onogur Islands ( bg, Оногурски острови, ‘Onogurski ostrovi’ \o-no-'gur-ski 'os-tro-vi\) is the group of nine islands and some islets and rocks adjacent to the northwest coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The group is situated between Carlota Cove to the southwest and Clothier Harbour to the northeast, and southeast of Cornwall Island. Churicheni Island ( bg, остров Чуричени, ostrov Churicheni, ) is the ice-free island in the Onogur group off the northwest coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica extending 230 m by 140 m. It is separated from Robert Island by a 100 m wide passage. The feature is named after the settlement of Churicheni in Southwestern Bulgaria. Antarctic Place-names Commission
The Antarctic Place-names Commission was established by the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute in 1994, and since 2001 has been a body affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria. The Commission approves Bulgarian place names in Antarctica, which are formally given by the President of the Republic according to the Bulgarian Constitution (Art. 98) and the established international practice. Territorial Claims In Antarctica
Seven sovereign states – Argentina, Australia, Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway, and the United Kingdom – have made eight territorial claims in Antarctica. Scientific Committee On Antarctic Research
The Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) is an interdisciplinary body of the International Science Council (ISC). SCAR coordinates international scientific research efforts in Antarctica, including the Southern Ocean. SCAR's scientific work is administered through several discipline-themed ''science groups''. Vilare Island ( bg, остров Виларе, ostrov Vilare, ) is the low ice-free island in the Onogur group off the northwest coast of Robert Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica extending 130 m in east-west direction and 60 m wide.
