''Only the Brave'' is a 1930 American Pre-Code Civil War drama film directed by Frank Tuttle and starring Gary Cooper, Mary Brian, and Phillips Holmes. Written by Agnes Brand Leahy, Edward E. Paramore Jr., Keene Thompson, and Richard H. Digges Jr., the film is about a Union Army captain who travels into Confederate territory as a spy with false dispatches hoping to mislead the Confederate forces. Frank Tuttle
Frank Wright Tuttle (August 6, 1892 – January 6, 1963) was a Cinema of the United States, Hollywood film director and writer who directed films from 1922 (''The Cradle Buster'') to 1959 (''Island of Lost Women''). Biography Frank Tuttle was educated at Yale University, where he edited campus humor magazine ''The Yale Record''."Frank Wright Tuttle". After graduation, he worked in New York City in the advertising department of the Metropolitan Music Bureau. Guy Oliver
George Guy Oliver (September 25, 1878 – September 1, 1932) was an American actor. He appeared in at least 189 silent film era motion pictures and 32 talkies in character roles between 1911 and 1931. His obituary gives him credit for at least 600. He directed three films in 1915. Early years Oliver was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of J. O. and Beno Oliver, on September 25, 1889. His father bought a music store in Lamar, Missouri, in 1891, and a few years later he formed the Lamar Ladies' Silver Cornet Band. Oliver was playing cornet in the group when he was 6 years old, and his mother was the conductor. Later the family formed The Musical Olivers, a troupe that "played Carthage, Springfield, Joplin, Rolla, and nearly every other town and city in Missouri". ''The Virginian'' is a 1929 American pre-Code Western film directed by Victor Fleming and starring Gary Cooper, Walter Huston, and Richard Arlen. The film was based on the 1902 novel '' The Virginian'' by Owen Wister and adapted from the popular 1904 theatrical play Wister had collaborated on with playwright Kirke La Shelle. Ladislao "Lalo" Encinas (June 27, 1886 – May 5, 1959) was an American character actor active in Hollywood from the 1910s through the 1950s. He was noted as one of few Apache actors working in the motion picture industry by contemporaneous reporters, though according to census records, it appears he was of mestizo or indigenous Mexican ancestry.
